This is what my wedding ring looks like. It's Tungsten in a prism design. It catches the light and sparkles like a diamond. I've received a ton of compliments since I've had it. It's not for everyone, but I love it.

The bangs come and go. I've had buzzcuts, shorter hair, etc since that picture 4 years ago. I have the bangs right now. Fiancee digs them. I'm cool with it.

I like platinum, but it's soft & can sometimes scratch although I've had no trouble with mine.
White gold is a good choice, also.
A lot depends on style & finish you want.

White gold. I love how it scuffs up fom me working on things. Gives it character. Never liked the look of the tungsten. I told my wife that when i send it in to get re-sized (its too big for me since i lost weight so i wear it on my middle finger) that they had better not polish it.

I like yellow gold too. But I like everything to be traditional, so my opinion is probably not worth much

My fiancé has a yellow gold thin band that actually was his grandfather's wedding band(his mom gave it to us a few months ago). We both have simple tungsten bands that we will wear for our honeymoon or camping trips, etc....basically when we don't want to risk losing/damaging our nicer ones.
With the strong sentimental attachment to his wedding band we felt this was a good idea.
