| HELP ME PLEASE!!! (permanent marker related) **Successful update in OP (Posted on 10/5/12 at 6:38 pm)
I finish one of the worst days of work I've ever had, I pick up my son and come home. Turn on the TV to watch a little football and hang with my boy when I notice permanent marker all over the tv screen. My stupid soon-to-be ex-wife clearly wasn't watching him when he marked all over the walls, the coffee table and my fricking 47 inch HDTV. There has to be some way of getting this shite off without ruining my TV. Anyone have any fricking clue. Yea, I'm mad. ETA: Expo dry erase marker over the permanent marker then erase immediately worked like a charm. My toothpaste had gel so I didn't try that one first, she already took the rubbing alcohol with some of her stuff (who knows why) and I wanted to try something before running to the store. Thanks for the advice from those who offered it. Yea, I'm still mad

LINK Instructions 1. You're going to need to get a microfiber cloth. If you don't have a microfiber cloth, you can use any kind of soft cloth to use instead. Microfiber is highly recommended though, so you don't scratch the screen on your TV or computer screen. 2. Next you will need toothpaste. You can use colgate, or really most brands will work. You want a paste without gel. For some reason the paste has a better cleaning agent when it comes to permanent markers. 3. Dampen your cloth with a little bit of water, and add a pea size amount of toothpaste. Lightly smear it around the cloth. 4. In small circles wipe the screen with the toothpaste on it to remove it. As soon as it's removed use a clean part of the cloth to continue wiping off the toothpaste from the screen. 5. Rinse the cloth well, and wipe over the area. 6. Next spray down the screen with an electronics surface cleaner. Make sure it's safe for your screen an monitor. Good luck

Whoa Hoss, take it easy. Can't help with the walls (new paint?), but grab some rubbing alcohol and -- after first trying an tiny spot to make sure you won't harm the surface -- clean away. Again I repeat to make sure that your cleaner won't ruin the surface (such as clouding a plastic screen). We mark our metallic covers with Sharpies, & alcohol makes it go bye-bye right away.

Most LCD screen cleaners or isopropyl alcohol based anyway. And it gets marker off of surfaces. Win-win

I know that dry-erase markers remove sharpie from dry-erase boards. Would that also work on the TV? I'm doing some research to see if rubbing alcohol will ruin the tv

I use rubbing alcohol to clean my tv, laptop, iPhone, touchscreen in my truck, etc. if you're really worried mix it 50/50 with water.

the "soon-to-be ex-wife" part has zero to do with the TV. That was already done.

So you don't need a microfiber cloth?? Never good that #1 on the instructions contradicts itself

Paper towel will do fine. Shop towels work even better.

You aren't the firstthat this has happened to. Of course you should probably make a quick trip to Wal-mart and test these methods while in the store!
