One of Romney's proud moments during debate#1 was when he crowed that he had worked with the dem legislature to craft the bill we now call Romneycare.
that is a lie. he didnt demonstrate the capability to work across the aisle, something he was asked about specifically,
HOW COULD YOU DEAL WITH THE LOGJAM?
He went on to refer to his Romneycare bill.
Here's what really happened in Massachusetts:
87% of the members of the legislature were Democrats.
ROMNEY VETOED major parts of the bill, including the mandate.
The dems, holding more than 2/3rds, did not need to compromise with Romney or the few Republicans in the legislature. they voted against the veto and the whole bill passed, as the Dems wanted, over the many vetos of your would-be heroic compromiser, bull shite artist Romney.
ROMNEY NEVER "WORKED WITH" the dems on the health care bill.
He tried to stop the main elements and was crushed every time.
He lied about that. He said, he would be able to work with the Dems in Congress like he used to back in the day. That day never happened. He lied about that.

I just recalled him saying that false claim, while I was reading up on the origins of the bill.

first thing i think you've ever posted that was remotely interesting, as i don't know shite about the procedural history of romneycare
so is that the whole story? why the hell is his name attached to it at all then?

If he actually fought it as you say now, then why, for the past couple of years, have you and liberals acted like Romneycare was a hindrance to Romney distinguishing it from Obamacare?

I thought you, and other liberals, have maintained that Romney signed into law the exact same health legislation as Obama.
Did Romney work with his legislature to get Romneycare passed or did he veto MAJOR parts of it including the single most hated part by conservatives and independents while the Dem legislature overrode him?

Romneycare, as proposed by Romney, was vastly different than Obamacare. It didn't include an individual or employer mandate. It didn't include new taxes, and a whole host of other major differences. The Mass legislature amended it to hell and Romney vetoed the worst parts. Of course every single one of those vetoes was overridden and the stigma of Romneycare is with him today.

Just because he tried to take parts of the bill out, that he didnt like, this proves he didnt/couldnt work with the Dems?
Hell, I get what you are saying, but if he wouldnt have tried to veto said parts out of the bill, you would be saying he was not involved in the bill at all and now trying to take credit.
No win situation with you folks.

you got it wrong. until recently Romney was not the candidate.
the people poking at him were fellow republicans.
I think for Romney, being associated with the bill is a kind of plus in the general election.
He got to remind states rights guys he is for states rights.
What's interesting about it all to me, is not whether there is a mandate, but that Romney is now claiming he was the great negotiator and compromiser when in fact he vetoed the parts he didnt like and did not win on any of them. That claim given DURING THE DEBATE was a lie.
He did not "work with' the Dems on the bill. they were opposed on the key points and he never gave in and neither did they.
it was identical to the shite in Washington except that the Dems had enough votes to overwhelm the Republican position.
