1. DO choose your user name carefully when you first register. Search the Member List to check for names that are similar to yours.

If you go to "my profile" you should see a form that says "username change request" and you put your request there. Then the admins should change it! If you don't hear back from them within two weeks, let us know.
Waiting time really depends on if you have a premium account or not. Do you have a premium account? If you upgrade they change it within a day.

I've sent my $9.99 in twice - both times I was told my application had been rejected, but they kept the $9.99 each time saying it's a non-refundable application fee.

This. Totally worth it, as you can change your username upon request and have access to the hidden boards. If you want the premium gold membership, which I don't have, you can have animated gifs as your avatar. Sigh...one day.

That's weird. They might have changed it to where you must be a premium member to do it no matter what. I can't check that, because my account is premium.
Did you try clearing your cache? Maybe the page isn't loading right

No dont delete your account. The admins don't like that. You might be able to convince one of the members with premium access to send a PM to an admin asking about premium membership for you. It's worth a try
