question... is it necessary to take the car back to the dealer for service or can i just run it through the quicky lube.

For oil changes and such i damn sure wouldn't take it to a dealer.

a car is the last thing i want to buy new.

it is guaranteed to get beat up.

you depend on this to go to & from work, potholes, orange barrels and gravel, rain and hail, rock cracks from stones thrown out by tractor trailers, etc.

i understand buying a porsche or something to keep in your garage as a collectible and drive only on certain days but the SUV i plan to buy is for basic public transporation and i know its going to get beat up..i don't drive on private highways

Not even close to the worst investment.

Expensive food/going out to dinner.

Alchohol, tobacco

Clothing

Pets

etc etc.

At least a vehicle returns something.

Smart move.

Most dealerships charge about the same as a quick lube joint.

Invest 20 grand in a vehicle and save 5 bucks on an oil change.

A dealership will use factory parts, keep a computer entry, let you know about any recalls etc. But why bother with that?

I've driven six explorers since the first one made in99'. I've sold all to friends at or about 150k miles. For $5000-5500. The 02 & 06 are still rolling with 225 K + . That ford 240 HP V6 is best they've ever made. Go get you one...

I would not buy an SUV that cost so little because the probability of maintenance nightmares is quite high.

paid $8k for my 1998 4runner with 150k miles and i'm about to hit 300 and the only thing i've ever worried about is the timing belt/water pump.
