I think the problem is a cultural problem within the LE agencies themselves, and not necessarily a training/salary issue.
The culture isn't going to change until the state collapses, however.

I disagree. While the number of bad cops is paltry, in my opinion, you must admit that stories such as these are rarely seen applying to federal law enforcement officers. While the feds do do a different job they also require at least a bachelors and pay upwards of 100K per year and it works. It would also bankrupt us if we applied these standards to all.

I worked in a federal law enforcement agency. I guarantee the abuse and corruption is just as rampant, it's just not the same type as what you see in city and county agencies.

L.A.'s my hometown; I lived there for 25 years on and off. I've hung out in South Central, East L.A., Compton, Venice, Long Beach, you name it, and the only place that really sent a shiver down my spine was L.A.P.D. headquarters. I've been punched, kicked and club gutted for doing nothing more than asking why I got stopped or what probable cause the cop had to search my car, etc. They are just plain scary fricks, especially late at night on a deserted stretch of some big thoroughfare: you are fricking on your own pal, hope the angels are with you ....

Are you referring to missapropriation of funds and waste? If so I agree with you but that is a characteristic of every government at every level since the dawn of government. It is simply human nature and will never change.

Many cops have already been killed this year. 72 officers were killed in 2011 by felonious assault. It's not something that doesn't happen.

Because while it happens, it is such a small minority. We see a case like this every few weeks or months when those departments are literally on hundreds of calls a day. This is just like me saying since most police/citizen interaction overwhelmingly isn't a case of too much for or falsifying reports, then why should we ever believe a cops uses too much force or falsifies reports. That's faulty logic. It's kind of like me saying that there are often false complaints against the police so we should never believe any complaint against the police.

They lost me 8 months ago.. The lies, stubbornness and unwillingness to apologize or admit they were wrong is ridiculous. I lost a lot of respect for police in general because of one cops bull shite and others not willing to call him out

yeah right, compton isn't just scary, it's just downright ridiculous, but you're scared of the police lol
