Personally I fell off in July, did not get a part time job with the Geek Squad until September to help pay bills until I graduate from school in March.

Unless you are a member of the 50,000+/- households called in the survey. it doesn't make any difference. Projecting the unemployment rate based upon 1 out of every 2,380 households is in itself a worthless enterprise without a "margin of error", as other polls have.

No shite. After the poor showing in the debate, he really needs something positive in the economic picture to hang his hat on. Granted, the numbers make about as much sense as Biz Markie' "You Got What I Need" being a hit, but any port in a storm...

re: 114k jobs created in September

Look at it like this:

(#People working)/(#jobs available) = 89/100 = 89% employment

100% -89% = 11% unemployment rate

Obama Solution = Reduce (#jobs available)

Now 89/96 = 92.7% employment

100% - 92.7% = 7.3% unemployment rate

See MAGIC

All without adding a single job

re: 114k jobs created in September

August had 39,000 fewer jobs created than July did.

September had 67,000 fewer jobs created than July did.

Is this progress? This is one specific way for Romney to explain it during the next debate in terms people can understand. If the employment situation is really getting better, my fellow Americans, why were there fewer jobs created in September than in August, and fewer in August than in July? Isn't that going in the WRONG direction? Mr. President, would you comment on what I just said?

Beat me to it. Romney can say that, then he can mention this:

re: 114k jobs created in September

On the day Obama was elected president, the most recent unemployment rate was 6.1%. That was the September rate - the October rate was not released until 3 days after the election. Obama in October, 2008, frequently ripped that 6.1% as being discouraging for the American people. Clearly, it wasn't the actual number that was the important statistic at that time, it was the overall beginning of the collapse of the economy. In other words, that 6.1% did not effectively capture the gravity of the situation, and did not present a true picture of where the economy stood.

Same with this 7.8%. It's historically high, yet trending downward - either way, those who follow the economy closely know this number in no way reflects any significant improvement in the overall economy. Baby steps when long strides are needed and expected after almost four years at the wheel.

re: 114k jobs created in September

quote:

The number of working people who are working part time increased by 600,000 workers in one month! From 8.0M to 8.6M. I have stressed repeatedly that in this household poll(survey) working one hour qualifies one as "employed", as opposed to "unemployed". The part-timers who want full-time work are relegated to being revealed in U-6.
U-6 is still sitting at 14.7%. That's the true measure - and it didn't change at all.

Good luck finding media that will talk about the U-6 figure.

Again, the explanation is part-time workers who tell the Census Bureau interviewer they want full-time employment.

This is why I did not want Romney to talk about the 43 consecutive 8%+ months during the debate. He avoided it until his two-minute closing statement, when I cringed.
Well Done NHT
