only trouble with this idea is that it takes, about 20-30 years for the young trees to even begin to resemble the 90 YO trees removed. I like the idea of planting more, but these aren't Pine trees that grow quickly. So you can't really replace the esxisting trees by planting new ones.
But this way, if you absolutely have to cut down old trees, you can plan a good place to plant new ones that won't need cutting down later and in another couple generations hou'll have some really beautiful oaks there again. It's better than nothing if you had to cut em

Simple solution though, if you have to cut down three live oaks, plant 12 more along the street in their place. Or however many necessary depending on the proper spacing for their root systems.
This, and I wonder how many of you whiny kids actively get involved in any arboreal programs and plant trees in your area of town. Yeah, didn't think so.

I literally pass by this area daily and I never give the trees a second thought. I'd be willing to bet money that the people who are up in arms about this, don't routinely stop and enjoy the trees anyway.

Agree. People that love trees should live in a damn forest. Get a job, buy a house, build a building and then tell me how much you love 'em.

Trees give...people take! BR was a shithole, is a shithole and With or without trees, will be a shithole. I owned a house in lake Sherwood, then people at the Super Fresh started getting robbed and mugged in the parking lot...several incidents where thugs attacked men and women I knew...we moved out...that area now part of the shithole.

May have already been said by this point in the thread, but building new roads does not reasonably reduce congestion over a period of time.

Didn't some guy do a study that says Baton Rouge is the most green city (tree-wise) in the US?
YES. That was going to be my post, but I couldn't link it. /thread To their defense, they hate to see trees they've seen their whole lives being cut down, but they have to let go. This city is already expanding faster that it can, without having to worry about cutting down trees before widening highways and building roads.

someone should turn in the contractor that cut that tree down for hiring an illegal alien and not following OSHA rules: no gloves, no safety glasses.

Give me a break. I would be willing to bet as soon as you moved in wherever you are now your new neighbors said this place is turning into a shithole. I hope you moved to Beaumont. Link the thug incidents.
