I'm kind of interested to know how you "came up" too?
I came up Poor, constantly holding on by a thread as a young child. Parents were able to hold on got lucky and were out of poverty by the time I started middle school. But I will never forget the arguments of choosing detergent to have clean clothes for work and school vs walking over an hour everyday to get to work that week. The understanding that one more unfortunate thing and my family would be crippled is more than enough to never disparage someone for giving up under oppressive circumstances. Your kind won't even have slightest understanding of what you just read and that's fine by me.

Well that's a good approach. You in your infinite wisdom cannot think of an approach to draw people out of poverty so we should give up on the problem and let the poor people deal with it and hope it doesn't bite the rest of us in the arse down the road when poverty is truly out of control.

I saw a girl's post on her facebook page today, that the shoulder surgery she was scheduled for has been indefinitely postponed because of this. So now she can't work, she'll get on financial assistance and stay on morphine until she can get her surgery scheduled. Kinda F-ed

BINGO! Lafayette General is expanding its ER and OR wings to add additional 40,000 er visits per year because of the cuts at UMC. We would not be expanding to add volume if these patients would suck us dry.

Privatization sounds great till you factor in the all the political ramifications & with La. politics, that is seldom done with full disclosure. Which is one reason Bobby has tightened up what his office has to disclose. As an example, Bobby, thru his DOA flunky Angelle Davis ( at that point in time)privatized the State's Office of Risk Mgt. The company that got the contract, according to its own website, had made significant , but admittedly not illegal, campaign contributions to Bobby's campaign. That contract cost the State, initially, $20 M; it has subsequently risen to $60M. After a calendar yr, that company's work product was audited & it got a resounding 90% failure rating. That contract was subsequently sold 2 more times, with the same principals involved in the "new" company each time.Approximately 88 state employees were laid off, with promises that the company would guarantee them a job for at least one yr. After one yr, there were less than 10 still hired. But for $80M, Bobby got his privatization, 88 employees off the books...but the State ends up the loser thru that company's poor work product.Think of all the lawsuits filed against the State in a yr. Then consider that the handling of that product resulted in 90% failure. Care to take this over to the medical field???

LMAO Yeah, a private company is going to take care of the mentally handicapped. Sounds like a great business model. I read a lot of stupid stuff on here but that takes the cake.

I agree, as well as drinking alchohol, speeding, driving and texting or while drousy, eating fried foods, not getting enough exercise. Ban them all from healthcare.

All kidding aside, when you live in a different state and get some perspective, you realize how backwards this state is, in every political respect. Regardless of whether there's a (D) or an (R) behind their name.

Socialize the losses and privatize the profits bitches. It's a business model and he;s just copying what he's seen the big banks do. Winning!

Oh I know. I've moved away three times before and grew as a man. I love my home state but I just can't stay here, it drags me down. But I'm always drawn back by the beauty and the wonderful things to do and the people (I never discuss politics with ppl in the public) but it's just so backwards in thinking and so many of our people are fooled by people they think are for them

lol. Basically all LSU med students are from in state. And the only residency program that is considered really good at LSU is Emergency Medicine.
Sorry, but it is painfully obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. Over 20% of the class of 2016 is from out of state. I have friends here from Kentucky, Ohio, Harvey Mudd, MIT, etc.

They should get rid of LSU, "the charity" system all together b/c it is run so inefficiently. All private hospitals/clinics should then split the burden of taking care of those patients. Things would be run in a more cost effective way that way.

Quick, you better contact Skanska/Mapp. They're working on a huge project right now for LSUHSC. And by huge, I mean a square block of downtown NOLA.

That is only recently true however, so I could see where that poster acquired what is now somewhat of a misconception. Last year, for the first time ever and in a direct response to budget short falls, LSU opened up applications to OOS students and took 25% of the class from out of state. Prior to last year you had to be an MD/PhD student to be considered from out of state. So before this freshman class, basically all LSU med students were from in state or at the least had acquired La residence from their years at an La undergrad college. Basically everyone in my class is from La. Obviously, you can charge out of staters higher tuition.
