Dude, is your household income under 20K for a family of four?

If not, get off your high horse.

Why I am responsible for other people's healthcare?

Is it because their parents were poor?

re: Jindal shutting down LSU hospital system in order to privatize it
If I was governor, I'd shut down all the small hospitals completely (moss regional, chabert, etc.) and have the community hospitals in those areas support the uninsured. Make LSU hospital in New Orleans the premier teaching/research hospital in the state, in order to attract insured patients who want to go there for quality care (similar to what exists in other states--UNC, UVA, UAB), to offset the cost of the charity care. LSU-NO is already the place I'd want to go in NOLA if I was in a car wreck. We should be able to beef up the other subspecialties in order for it to be the premiere cancer/ortho/cardiac center as well (much like it is for trauma). I will say that having a charity system is excellent for exposure to pathology/procedures for residents, but something needs to be done.

Why should somebody else have to pay because your parents made shitty choices? Newsflash your parents shouldn't have had kids if they made that little. That was their frickup nobody else's. Let them pay for it.

And what adversity is so terrible that I couldn't over come it? Through good choices anybody can over come pretty much everything.

LSU offering more welding and pipefitting classes in place of French, Calculus, and History.

Welders and pipe fitters enable you to keep your home warm in the winter. What do French majors do for anyone?

Jindal isn't as smart as he thinks he is. He'll have trouble ever winning national office given the way he's gone about things here.

We have a votech system in the state for that. You want to drain LSU's standards of admissions?

Do you really not see the dangers to society as a whole to let these bad decisions propagate generation after generation? Do you not see the potential consequences to you and your family and all the other people who have made "good" decisions throughout their lives if the poor population grows large enough and angry enough to start degrading society as a whole. This isn't about what is fair, this is about doing what needs to be done to stop the self-perpetuating cycle of every bad parent raising two or more bad kids. If you take an active approach to educating people and lifting them out of poverty, you then have fewer people remaining dependent on the government. You kick them to the curb, they give up and raise their children to do the same and you end up with a growing population of government dependents.

To say that Bobby's cuts are not "agenda driven" is ridiculous. Everything he does is driven by his almost raw hunger for his future political life. His take on the cigarette tax said it all. As long as he did not have to have the word "tax increase" added to his resume, he simply let that vote pass & common sense prevailed. He's not had one Q&A press conference, with the local media, in over a yr & a half now. Everything he has to say comes from well prepared, thought out press releases. If he is brilliant, why won't he face the press/the La. public? LSU77, why don't you go live on an island? You are one sick puppy. In your world, the mentally handicapped serve no real purpose in life & since they are a financial drain on our economy, let's toss them out into the ditches, too. The war vets who come back disabled & unable to provide for themselves & their families..what purpose to they serve except as a drain on the economy, since they are non productive according to you?

No, but I don't want to spend state money so that people can avoid real life for 4 years while studying something that provides little to no public return.
I also believe that we push everyone into traditional college to our detriment and to theirs.

Vets are a little different if they are hurt on duty. They earned that money. Im a vet myself, and am more then happy to donate to those hurt while serving.

Mentally handicap should be taken care of by family or private charities. Why does the government have to do it? There are private solutions to these things.

To those person saying education is the key to lifting people out of poverty, you are right. But simply throwingmoney at the problem doesnt work. They have to be willing to work hard to get out of povert.

Bottomline is the poverty rate has remained pretty constant despite throwing trillions at the war on povert and under povershed schools. If more money was the answer why is this the case?

Some or many in poverty dont have the iq to understand how to get out. And many dont want to get out. Money isnt the answer

I assume that last line was supposed to be you dont believe we should be pushing everybody towards college.

If so i agree.

No public university should offer degrees in things that have no public benifit. Womens studies, foreign language, general studies should all be cut and so should all other like degrees. Wanna get an english degree? Goto tulane. Wanna get an english degree to teach? Get a teaching degree with a emphasis on english.

But the argument being made is not that we should find more effective and efficient ways to invest government resources and taxpayer dollars, it is that we should forget about addressing the problem because these people brought it upon themselves and should be forced to face the consequences.

And education is just one way to address the issue. You need to instill in these people a sense that society has not given up on them. Otherwise, many don't see a reason to overcome adversity because all they see is world pitted against them.
