why shouldnt they die in a ditch? if a dumbass makes the choice to smoke, gets cancer, and cant pay for it well..... then seek charity or help from family. but why the frick should i have to pay for somebody else's bad choices?

btw my biological mother is a smoker and will prolly be in this situation and I feel the same way about her.

am I an a-hole, maybe, but dont ask me to pay for somebody else's bad choices.

I agree with you in theory, but in reality, you point of view is very difficult to apply because, where do you draw the line and who draws it?

Smoking? How much? 1 pk a day, 1 pk a year? And how do you prove that?
What other areas?
Obesity?
Failure to use motorcycle helmet or seatbelt?
Auto accident while distracted talking on the phone?
HIV from homosexual intercourse?

Then imagine it's your loved one (father, son, friend) dying of one of the above with no money to pay the bills. What then?

re: Jindal shutting down LSU hospital system in order to privatize it

The people from Louisiana in this thread defending Jindal and saying it’s not a big deal and we don’t need them:

You are a bunch of fricking idiots and have no fricking idea what you are talking about. You have no concept of what it takes to train a doctor, from start to finish, and the valuable role those public hospitals play in that development.

Miss Demon is a doctor at EKL. This is damn near her 10th year of medical education and right now is the most important time in her development due to the fact of that she is treating a diverse group of patients in a multitude of different areas. Every month they do a different area (ICU, ER, Clinic, etc.) throughout the year. A couple of months ago she was on ICU. She had 9 patients in one night on ICU. While she is learning under some of the best physicians who are teaching them things they could and would never learn in a class setting, they will no longer have any ICU facility at EKL, thus they will not be able to train in this field do to the closure of the ICU department.

How does this affect you you say? Well next week you or a loved one may have a medical emergency and you end up at one of the private hospitals in the ICU and about to die, good chance you will end up being taken care of by one of the residents from LSU's residency program. Oh yeah the upper level residents all do a full month in the ICU at a private hospital, most of the time alone without attending physicians with them. They all have to do it. So do you want you or your loved one (with the best insurance in the world) to go to your private hospital and be in the ICU being taken care of by a doctor who can no longer train at EKL or other public hospital because it was shut down? Don’t you want the most experienced doctors taking care of you? Don’t you want a doctor who has a vast amount of knowledge and education and has already learned by practicing on their indigent patients? I sure as hell do

How does this affect everyone in the state you say? Well a huge percentage of doctors in Louisiana as students at LSUS or LSUNO rotate in public hospitals while in med school, or residents come here and work and train in the residency programs after graduation and end up staying here to practice medicine. So next time you go to YOUR doctor who you can afford with your nice insurance, you are most likely getting a doctor trained in the Public system. Your doctor cut his or her teeth working and learning in those public hospitals, and now they are treating your arse once they got that experience.

I love my state, and the people in it, but sometimes you stupid motherfrickers can't see the forest for the trees and become the most ignorant dumb asses when group think kicks in. We see that mentality every day on the rant, why do we need those rantards running the state.

If you think I am wrong, that is fine. But just remember, when you go to the doctor in the future and the same guy that was once serving you a slurpy at Circle K is now your doctor b/c we no longer train doctors in this state, you can thank Jindal for bringing all his cousins in to provide your health care.

This affects EVERYONE in Louisiana. Stop being ignorant dicks, and actually pay attention to what is going on.

Sorry that you had to listen to your wife bitch about this tonight.

Again, everything I'm reading is that this is a result of the multi-million dollar cut from the Feds to Louisiana's Medicare/Medicaid outlay.

LSU needs to be shite on.

Going to LSU for the second time. Worst run college and most fricked up priorities for a school I've ever encountered.

Why do they have a math faculty now? every thing is done on computers by yourself.

English Dept is a joke. Sciences are a joke.

need to clean house. School is a joke these days.

Why is LSU taking roll in classes? That's for BRCC, SLU, and the UL systems to do. LSU is above giving an attendance grade.

And now they will rotate in private. It's not like they will not go into rotation.

I never understood the forest for the trees argument. Can someone please explain it for me.

Seriously. I want to know.

Also, Devil beating his wife. I don't get that one either.

You are extremely ignorant of the situation. Shut up now.

Question for you: are you in Med school?

I would say that's your fault. Why would you go to a substandard educational facility? YOU are responsible for your decisions. You only have yourself to blame for going to a "joke" (your word) of a school. Isn't that the mantra around here?

Not really accurate. This is the bull shite they keep spewing publicly to justify Jindal's reform agenda.

The end of the day, some things are just to valuable and too important to the public good to just destroy. This is one of them. Medical Education and training of our doctors impacts the lives of nearly every citizen of Louisiana. It should be regarded as a necessity, but instead is being used as toilet paper to further Jindal's national ambitions.

It will be a good day when that POS leaves the state for good

Link? Or just conjecture based on your biased opinion?

Yea and we can go back to leadership that for 25 years in a row had outmigration from this state and negative job growth.

LSU med died when Charity closed after Katrina.

The training provided by Charity for nurses and doctors was the best in the nation. When it closed, LSU med took a big hit.

Jindal had nothing to do with it.

The whole thing boils down to money, right? Where should we get this money to keep them operating?

The first time I went through, it was a good school.

Now, it's a joke. I'm actually pissed off that I'm paying more than double the tuition and getting the education I'm getting from them.

LSU is a fricking joke now.

So are the students. Had a geography class and more than half the class couldn't draw a world map and label all the continents.

I'm not making that up. College students are dumber now than before.

All the college cares about is getting the most students to pay the tuition. That's it.

Admissions requirements are the highest they've ever been along with the average scores and gpa of this freshman class.

Jindal has turned down billions of dollars that would have helped this state in innumerable ways (not just health care). I believe that he turned this money down JUST so he could go on the campaign trail and say he turned it down, consequences be damned.

*But Jindal certainly whined and cried when the FEMA / Federal Govt. help didn't come fast enough after hurricanes.

Once again:

Why are you still going to LSU? Shirley you are going to transfer after the fall semester to a better school, right?

(and yes, I just called you Shirley )

Because its tied to the ACA. And there was no clear outlook for how much this would cost the state down the line as the federal payments waned.

I love how 90%+ of the posters on here want ACA repealed but in the same breath want Jindal to accept $$$ from the program.

That money is never free and clear. It's always, "We'll give you this money if...." The federal govt doesn't just hand them money and tell them to spend it wisely.

GPA is a false requirement. Most high schools are factories to produce higher GPA's to get more funds.

The ACT is actually easier now. I took it a year ago for shits and giggles. I got a 33. In high school I got a 27. I was better prepared in high school. Maybe I got smarter, but I doubt it.

Admissions requirements are a joke. I know this just from having to deal with my fellow students. Actually had a guy ask if the US had nuclear weapons. One girl had never heard of the Soviet Union.

My favorite has to be the guy who thought Columbus was the guy who wrote the Declaration of Independence.

I'm not making this shite up.

As a current medical student I can tell you that most of my classmates and I are now strongly considering leaving this state for our residency training. For all of you that think this will only affect indigent populations and that a massive emigration of medical professionals will not limit your access to care, you are sorely mistaken.
