With the cast of Wayne, Fonda, Mitchum, and many others; shot in black and white; and gives a "German" perspective. I would say yes.

Well there aren't a whole lot to choose from...
D-Day The Sixth Of June (1956) is a romance masquerading as a war film
The Americanization Of Emily (1964), a satirical comedy starring James Garner, would be my favorite but it's only partially about D-Day.
Another Garner film from the very same year, 36 Hours, deals with an elaborate German attempt to trick a US soldier into revealing the D-Day landing location. But it's really more of a spy film. In 1964 Garner made not one but two films in which D-Day being postponed 24 hours is a major plot point.
There's a super-low budget English film called Overlord (1976), which has a small cult following thanks to its style (B&W, lots of still photographs)

Best old dday movie yes. Best old world war 2 movie has to go to A Bridge Too Far.

A Bridge Too Far is alright.
Best WW2 infrantry flick is Kelly's Heroes, followed by Battle of the Bulge
A shitload of Naval WW2 flicks are awesome.

It's up there, but A Bridge Too Far is so damn long. shite ton of famous people in it too. I've always been fond of Patton, although it is quite long as well.

Patton is my fav old WWII movie (it would be my favorite but Saving Private Ryan was just too emotionally powerful)
The Longest Day is the best D-Day movie I suppose, but it seemed to drag on for me personally. It's been awhile since I watched it though.

True depiction of General Norman Cota.
"While Cota had a far less optimistic view of the plan than the high command, even he underrated the extent of the near-catastrophe that awaited V Corps (composed of the 29th Infantry Division and the famous "Big Red One" 1st Infantry Division) on Omaha beach and the 4th Infantry Division on Utah beach.
Cota landed with a part of the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, in the second wave, approximately one hour after H-Hour[4] on the Omaha sector known as Dog White. His LCVP landing craft came under heavy machine gun fire as well as mortar and light artillery fire; three soldiers (including most likely at least one officer) were killed immediately upon leading the disembarkation.
Cota was one of the highest-ranking officers on the beach that day. He is famous for personally rallying the shell-shocked, pinned-down survivors and opening one of the first vehicle exits off the beach.[4] Two famous quotes are attributed to him during this time:
In a meeting with Max Schneider, commander of the 5th Ranger Battalion, Cota asked "What outfit is this?" Someone yelled "5th Rangers!" To this, Cota replied "Well, God damn it then, Rangers, lead the way!"[4] "Rangers lead the way" became the motto of the Rangers.
He is also quoted as saying to his troops, "Gentlemen, we are being killed on the beaches. Let us go inland and be killed." In the film The Longest Day, Cota (played by Robert Mitchum) actually delivers another famous quotation attributed to Colonel George A. Taylor: "There are only two kinds of people who are staying on this beach: those who are already dead and those that are gonna die. Now get off your butts, you're the fightin' 29th."
That was from wikipedia, but that story has been told by many eye-witness D-Day veterans on The Military Channel.

lol in the longest day when the on the beach the british soldier tells the other british soldier (played by a young sean connery) after seeing the crazy drunk frenchman ride by on his bicycle, "flanigan, there's a lot of peculiar bloaks on this beach".
