there to protect him, or run interference for him, or spin for him, or lie for him. It was instructive, to say the least. Clint Eastwood's 'empty chair' routine kept running through my mind.

The empty chair. Tru dat. The same image kept popping into my mind as I watched the totally inept Pres try to defend his record. It was as if he wasn't there.

The quote by Sununu comes to mind. I think he has become complacent after tasting success. I don't think he has the heart for the fight to keep his job like he did before he got it. The MSM keeping him in a protective bubble allows him to just strow rhetoric without being held accountable. I think he enjoys that part of his job, but not the hard work and preparation that he must endure to keep his job. His speeches today and back to full of energy like the old Obama. He likes to make speeches, he just doesn't like being held accountable for those words or actions. I think Obama missed his calling. He should have been a evangelist, which I think his speeches make him sound like.

I don't think he took the debate seriously. It's a shame, my guess is the next debate will be different.

I contend it's the first time ever. McCain came at him with zilch.

I realize the man is a completely self-absorbed narcissist, but I find it hard to believe he didn't take the debate seriosuly. The media didn't do the man any favors by working so hard to protect him for the last four years. Obama lives in a bubble.

Yeah, that's probably the closest he got before last night. Two of the were just arguing varying degrees of their true believerdom. Last night clearly hit him like a ton of bricks he'd never seen or expected.

I was slightly surprised, I thought Obama would go for the kill. Obviously he was playing it safe, wasn't paying attention, or really is incompetent. I am going to assum e it was with either of the first two for now. If he delivers more of nothing in the next two....then it's incompetence

The Univision town hall should've tipped off his staff that he wasn't ready and had been isolated from real questioning. But even if they had caught it, he still would've gotten his arse handed to him, because he can't win on numbers, when Romney is that prepared.

Same. I think the combination of Romney staring him down literally the entire time, regardless of which one of them was talking, and essentially being called a liar to his face was not something he was comfortable with. I don't think he is necessarily a stupid man, but I don't think he has the gift of being able to recall massive amounts of detailed factual information and form it into arguments. That's fine if all you are doing is regurgitating the talking points your advisors are feeding to you, but if someone is flat out accusing you of inventing facts you have to be able to come back at him with something more than those talking points. I'm not sure Obama is capable of that.

4 years ago was the perfect storm for Obama. After 8 years of Bush, people wanted a breath of fresh air, and he fit the bill. It's much different now that he is the target. He was not ready when Romney came out swinging, and was in a daze the whole time. I guarantee he will have a better showing next time, but the fact is he doesn't have very much to tout.

the man had no teleprompter to be his nanny. how many times has he had to deal with that?!?! he will have the same problems in the next debates because, last I heard, teleprompters are verboten. And actual intelligence and mastery of facts and records is required.
