re: CFL says "LSU O-line may be the best in college FB"

I really think the guys are just not as focused in those smaller games.. I feel like they will start to bring the hat much like against washington. Another thing i saw last week was spencer ware missing a couple of key pass blocks. Not for lack of effort tho, he just went all out towards the knees and missed

La'el is doing great this year and is on track for an all-american type season.

IMO Collins and Williford have been the best O-linemen so far this year. Now, I've seen both botch an assignment on occasion, but they've both been dominant at times.

Williford might be the most underrated player on the team. He is often dominant in run-blocking.

Lonergan is usually consistent and steady but I think injuries have affected his play a little bit this year.

The early line this week had MSU +14 against Kentucky. It was an obvious mistake that was corrected.

Same thing with our O-Line being the "best". Obvious mistake is obvious.

I never understood this mentality. I played some HS & college basketball and won a state championship in Ohio. We always wanted to crush the competition no matter how good or bad they were. I think this is a BS excuse. We are just not gelling and O-line is totally about unit blocking IMO...

the real question is how much and when will our oline improve. they, obviously, have plenty of room for improvement...and it better start damn fast. to crown us as "the best in college fb" is premature but hopefully it will light a fire under our big boys and, as you stated, "start rollin heads."

I know for a fact they are bigger than i can remember in recent years. Hurst and williford are whales. Run block imo is better than average. I guess with their size its just a little harder to move from side to side on pass block. Idk. Im interested to see how they do saturday. Mett does tend to hold on to the ball when he doesnt see what he wants. Understandable. He can only get better with experience and i think he will

I don't understand why Collins hasn't been tried out at LT.
You build OL with strongest, baddest, mofos inside to out.
LTs need footwork/ agility over size.
Collins might have been a LT in HS, but maybe Moffit grew him into a guard.
I don't have the playing weights/gym #s from HS and 2012, nor time to look them up.
Back to work and maybe check later.

To me, I think the big reason Collins hasn't been moved to LT is because of Faulk. Faulk will be back next year and then where does La'el go? You don't want to move him to LT now and then back to guard next year and then back tackle in 2014.

Good point, and Collins might not want to move either.

The only O-lineman who gets consistently beat in pass pro is Dworaczyk. Hurst does have some difficulties with his lateral movement at times as well, but he's rarely getting beat to the point of blowing up the play like Dworaczyk.

Remember, not all of the pressure is because of the O-line. Mett's had trouble recognizing corner blitzes, and the backs have had issues also.

I don't know how good you were but these kids are the best that high schools have to offer and are in the top 100-200 in the country. They don't wonder, they know that they are good and can crush the opposition.

Every game they also want to dominate the opposition - they just feel that they can do it with less effort against an inferior opponent. They find carrying a cordless portable drill is lighter than bringing a corded pneumatic hammer drill.

They keep using the cordless and find that it is not working and keeps jumping and then after the half they decide to bring the heavy equipment out and then realize that the whole place is pockmarked with ugly little holes and they have to avoid it and start afresh. They do so and get the job done and by that time the game is over and you don't see a full time domination

To give another example - there are a lot of chess international grandmasters who play 25 players at a time for charity or fundraising or just for fun.

They run from table to table making moves. They expect to win by just scanning the table when they arrive there - but by chance say there is a good player who doesn't participate in competitions, he has a very good chance of sneaking in a couple of strategical placements before the champ knows it.

Now in the 8th move, when 17 folks have already been defeated, the champ moves to this table and gets a punch in the face and he realizes that he should have paid attention because this guy came to play. The good news for the champ is that he is still the grandmaster and can win at any time and he knows it regardless of the sloppy play before and recovery needed now to win.

So what you see is not an excuse - it is the heights of arrogance/pride that is justified due to being elite athletes.

Collins is easily the most lithe and athletic starter on the offensive line.

Just watch him when he's getting into the second level to block linebackers.

re: CFL says "LSU O-line may be the best in college FB"

Point being- a well coached disciplined team does not allow a non FBS team to hang 22 points up, motivated or not. I get it. I just feel like after hearing about the halftime incidents, fictional or not, at the national championship, things that go wrong are much more likely to be pointed toward coaching. Im gunna get railed for this but so be it. How do u justify pulling a qb who is 8 - 0 with mauck/flynn like statistics for another guy? Much less a guy who is arrested for "allegedly" kicking a marine in the face? You can't. Now, we all make mistakes and i get that. But This situation alone brought on so much division between players and coaches that im not sure if it can be healed. I for one, hope im wrong.
