And yet they will continue not to perform medical necessity on outpatients and allow the physicians to over order on every outpatient that comes in the door. And then they claim they are doing their best. Simply said the administrators are still back in the 1980's.

And Oschner also has one of the highest rates of medical malpractice lawsuits in the state.

I'd like to know what his plan is for the uninsured. There are plenty of people in this state that simply can't afford health insurance. There aren't enough well paying jobs in this state to enable many to get insurance. There needs to be a safety net of some kind. While it's true that a hospital can't refuse care, it also digs the poor a deeper hole of debt that they simply can't pay.

If you want a safety net so bad why don't you pay for it? It is not necessary for people that dont need one.

Well, maybe the stupid fricking state constitution could be amended or rewritten to allow the governor to cut from areas other than health care and higher ed.

I just don't see any of the below hospitals being on that list.
Perhaps one may have a good program or two, but they are certainly not known wide as the best training grounds in the US...

They would not have to shut down anything if they were ran properly. Few of the charity patients are truely no-pay, most all have either medicaid or medicare.
THATS WHY THE FOR-PROFITS WANT THEM - THEY KNOW THEY ARE JUST NOT BEING OPERATED CORRECTLY.

Just about any private hospital is going to have higher volume than the charity hospitals. However the variety of cases is usually limited and lack complexities compared to those than come into charity hospitals. While its important to have a high volume so that you can be surgical competent and proficient. Its also important to have complicated pts with your billion comorbidities so that when shite goes wrong when you are on your own you know how to handle it and so that your are proficient at handling even these cases as well.
