You can YouTube it but it's obviously not the same experience. It really felt like you were going to be decapitated by his swinging arm.

They stopped making the Yeti operational because of how expensive it was. It is the most cost-inefficient animatronic to date. I know that Disney has billions and billions of dollars but that doesn't mean they won't cut corners to keep things at the cheapest operational costs possible.

How sure are you of that? All I've ever heard/read was that the foundation was cracked.

The yeti is a very sore topic of discussion among hardcore Disney purists. I do believe the strobe is there for the remainder of the yeti's existence. I'm just happy I got to see it operational a few times.

My understanding (and granted I'm not an Imagineer) is that it was maintenance costs that has caused this to happen. He breaks so frequently that Disney is tired of fixing it. Plus there's no long term solution to stop him from constantly breaking.

Exactly.

I worked in Animal Kingdom on Kali River Rapids, Everest, and Kilimanjaro Safari. I was told this by my managers. Have also ridden Everest with the lights on. Pretty cool.
Side note: there are so many horrible stories you hear about the parks through managers. It's ridiculous.

Makes sense. I guess the foundation is only part of the problem.

Disco yeti is supposed to go down for repair after Avatarland is complete... Until then, they can't bring the ride down due to capacity issues.

Have not heard him called that yet.

I thought Avatarland was still in limbo and not 100% official. Well it was slated for a 2018 opening right? If so Disco yeti will be looking like John Travolta by the time they get around to fixing him.

Get the fast passes first, then ride the other rides until you wait for the fast pass time.

This times 100000000. It will save you tons of time and headache.

Rack up on FASTPASSes for high profile rides first thing. Even though the passes have a time frame, you can still go after it has "expired." The only thing that matters is that you go after the start time. This will let you enjoy other rides that don't have longer lines while you take your time going to the main attractions.

FASTPASS Recommendations (if you're focusing on doing the more kid-friendly rides):
Magic Kingdom - Buzz Lightyear, Peter Pan's Flight (this line is a bitch), Dumbo (also a bitch), and Jungle Cruise
Epcot - Soarin'
Hollywood Studios - Run like hell and get a FASTPASS for Toy Story Mania, they'll be gone within an hour of the park opening
Animal Kingdom - Some would say Kilimanjaro Safaris, but if you're there in the morning then just ride it first. It's when the animals are most active.

Other recommendations for not as kid friendly rides:
All the "mountains" at Magic, Mission Space & Test Track at Epcot, Tower & Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood, Everest & Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom.

I hope your trip is stress free and full of great memories!

Was given the opportunity to ride it with the lights on....

It was absolutely terrifying.

Rode it then saw it with the lights on shortly thereafter... was waiting on the tram tour thing and a car had gotten stuck on the the roller coaster. Looked like an old railroad bridge put in a car crusher.

That was the case when I went too but someone posted earlier in this thread that they are enforcing the expired time now.

100% enforcing it now. It's part of preparing for the Next Gen phase for the parks. People will be able to actually schedule the times they want to ride attractions within certain parameters obviously. The system was being readily abused with people selling them on eBay, showing up hours after the time, etc. Next Gen gave them the perfect excuse to start enforcing it.

You USED to be able to. Beginning in May of this year, all parks began enforcing the expired time now. Even if you are 5 minutes late, you will not be let in.

HOWEVER, tell them that you got caught on another ride or that you had dinner reservations or an emergency. Most cast members will not turn you away if you use one of these excuses. When I worked there, I was told to let people in if they had one of these legit excuses.

A few friends that are cast members told me that they are being reprimanded if they get caught letting people in. I don't know how it's being enforced though. And you know how Disney management is if you've worked there.

So true.
Basically whenever I worked there, the coordinator (boss on call at the time) would come and have to personally approve each family on a case by case basis.

It's still a go right now with construction to start early next year ... However, there are rumors now that DHS will be expanded with Carsland the sequel... They even sent the lead imagineer from Disneyland to WDW.

There is a BIG possibility we will be seeing the extended version of disco yeti.
