OK....I get it for most of the people the first time around...some white people voted for him because they truly wanted a "change"...some blacks voted for him because he was black....(it's our turn)......but, if the American people re-elect this failed idiot......this country and these people truly deserve the debacle that will befall this country!!!!

you OP has two parts to it. why did people vote for Obama in 2008 and why would someone prefer him to Romney now.
Allow me.
IN 2008, the market had just tanked. People had the perception, not completely accurate, that wall street = Republican.
Bush, one of a family of Senators, Governors and his own father was both CIA director and president of the USA. So what Bush43 did, the Dems could pretty fairly attach to the party of which he was merely the tip of the iceberg. He was not even in charge.
Darth Vader ran things from VP Bruce Cheney's office.
THe people rejected the entire Republican fricking party.
The WMD war was the best part. Making up fake reasons to kill hundreds of thousands of people. Wowser.
In my view, and my view is what counts, because you are asking why, and I am fricking telling you my truth, which therefore, by definition 100% accurate, as I see it.
Bush was perceived as having taken us to war so as to be later called "a war-time president", on account of Bush being a history buff and convinced that 'history' judges president who served in war-time as the better ones. That perception was given to us by the press secretary of the President.
You cant frick up worse.
Hence, Obama.

Why did people vote for Mondale? Kerry? Gore? McGovern?
Each party has a built in base of 20-30 million Americans who will vote for that party no matter what.

1. no adults in this room believe that the positions Romney represents to us as presently his are really his.
I happen to have learned who he was in a lifetime where he was a decent caring moderate. Suddenly, he is in the cage match with santorum, Cain, perry, Bachmann and Newt and Romney turns into Bachmann-lite. Wowser. That bothers me more than anything.
He even spoke his truth two different times during this primary season and was reprimanded by Rush Limbaugh or Rove or one of those, and he recanted from his decent caring moderate positions. He fricking took it back, the next day. NO SHAME.
RECANTED.
I think the ease with which Romney moves positions comes from his time as Mormon student-missionary. He had to defend the one where you can get into heaven with a free pass if you are Jewish, but if you are black or asian, you cannot get in at all.
That has since been rescinded by the elders in the late 1970's, but when Mitt was preaching to the French those years
he hid out from Vietnam, it was the opening remarks in the Mission presentation. I know, because I received that presentation, world wide the same. Highest Heaven is for Jews, and the best Mormons, and no Negro nor Asian. He said that with a straight face. jews in. not blacks. after you do that for 100 presentations, you can sell anything.
As Obama summed it up in his last remarks
Romney has sold himself to the right wing of his party.
He has already gone along with it. He's been co-opted for all practical purposes. Disregard Massachusetts Governor. He is now Bachmann-lite.
One more thing: when Romney 'cooperated' with the Democrats in the Massachusetts legislature, the Dems were not fighting against the public option. the public option won. There is no great Romneyesque negotiation that carried the day. the Dems wanted the public option and they got it. Romney didnt veto it.

They dont want to seem "intolerant" even though they do not even know the fricking definition of the word. Also, they believe that just because a person says "change" or "We're moving forward" that it means its a change for "good" or that we are moving in a "positive" direction. Damm... the bar has been lowered beyond fricking comprehension here.

there is more truth to the "a lot of blacks voted for obama just because he was black" than most would like to admit
I don't like to stereotype, but it's become quite difficult lately
