I just sold an '04 F-150 with 160,000 miles on it that never failed me. And I sold it for $12,000 after refusing several offers over $11K.

2004 sequoia, 169k miles. great condition $8700 http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/3311231015.html tough to beat vehicles at this price that look this good. there's probably 10 out there for a similar price.

I would be comfortable with a 150k mile vehicle if I knew the owners.
That's a good point. I just bought a Yukon with 60,000 miles from a dealer in Alexandria. While rooting around in the glove box I found receipts for every oil change it's ever had. Also, he serviced the 4x4 system regularly and kept up with the recommended service. I was relieved.

i wouldn't have a problem driving a car i bought new into those kinds of miles, but i'm like you, i'm leary of how people have treated cars, i guess b/c i'm so rough on them. i'd have to know the owners, cause even with those miles these used cars these days cost some $$

Hard to find but get you a 1997 land cruiser. Anything under 150K miles you should pay around $8K and it will drive forever. And you won't look like everyone else.

I got a better deal for you... I have a 2002 GMC Yukon Denali (white), original owner and I paid $43k new and it only still has 92k miles. Loaded for what you could get back then. I have been keeping it as a back up ride but I could give it away to young kid who might enjoy it more. $8500. Food for thought.

Same here. I often lust over cars that I'd love to own, but at the end of the day, I'm too cheap to pay a lot of money for a depreciating asset (except for a bicycle). This past May, I sold my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero with 103k miles (what a piece of shit, by the way) for $2700 cash to a Mexican. I bought my grandmother's 2002 Mazda 626 with 60k miles for $3500. Bluebook on the Alero was around $2500-2700, Bluebook on the Mazda is about $4500-4700. It's in amazing shape, just had to replace the rear tires because they were old--plenty of tread, but the tread started delaminating due to infrequent use and age.

i hold onto cars for a long time. prior to the 4runner i had a legend and an accord..both kept for almost 10 years each.
cannondale carbon 29er
I'm strictly a roadie, but I've been tinkering with the idea of exploring mountain biking. But, like everything else in cycling, entry price point is high. I wouldn't want to buy a cheap MTB and outgrow it when I want to race. And I wouldn't want to drop a ton of money on a race-worthy bike and end up hating it or not riding it much.

i am too..i'm getting the mtn bike for training this winter. its hard to go down hills at 45mph+ when its 25 degrees outside so switching to mtn biking to help w/ base miles and climbing helps because i wont be going as fast in the cold weather and freezing my nuts off. my buddy just moved to cat3 (along w/ some of the other 4 badasses) and he took 2nd overall in points for the state of TN. i'm hoping i got a better shot next season w/ some of the stronger guys moving up so i'm going to train like a banshee this winter.

Similar situation here in LAMBRA. Lot of very strong Cat4s upgraded. With them gone, I got 9th in the LAMBRA RR Champs. Inching my way closer to some (ANY) upgrade points. This winter will be balls-to-the-wall. On topic: buy that dude's Yukon he posted earlier. <$10k for a Yukon with only 92k sounds like a heck of a deal, no? I may be way off base on that, but it seems like it.

good for you. i did those races in monroe in the spring and there was a bunch of tulane cyclists at dinner that night along w/ me and some buddies. the funny thing was they were ignoring the biggest badass sitting at the table, jered gruber, who just got off the phone that very day w/ eddie merckx. (he is a photojournalist for peloton magazine) while they were busy talking about this cool thing called 'bike racing' that no one in louisiana knew about, jered was telling me some of the coolest stories ever. oh and jered took 1st in the TT and 2nd in the P123 crit the next day.
