Yeah it does seem legit, idk why its not verified...even some college athletes have verified accounts.

I guess if the issue is the pic in the OP, well, it's not very professional, but they didn't slam a particular player. He probably should just let it go.
FWIW, I'll also add that the point of view he's coming from is wrong. Yes, it's the school newspaper. That doesn't mean it should be a "rah-rah, KU's awesome!" attitude in articles/publications. It should be objective. If he would be fine with an opponent's newspaper or the Lawrence paper doing that, he should be fine with the school newspaper. It shouldn't make a difference.

Usually twitter reaches out to you if you're important enough.. As for big sports teams, they have marketing reps that reach out to twitter to get their players handles verified.
