OK, so the previews as of now will be for annual pass holders but he says they sometimes will let others in. It's kind of a show up and hope they let you in type of thing. They don't really announce it.

Also, be careful with kids that young. Some rides that seem very innocent to us can be very scary for very young children. When my daughter was very young we took her on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Snow White's scary ride and they put her off of a lot of rides for a few years. I'm not sure if those are even still open but just thought I'd throw that warning out since I think you said your kids were pretty young.

This must be something new. I rode Everest at least 5 times in one day during its soft opening. If they changed the rules it would be news to me.

The haunted mansion did this to my daughter as well.

First time I took my older children they thought the ghosts actually rode home with them and didn't sleep that night...

Well like he said, sometimes they let more than just pass holders in. But it's never a definite thing.

My daughter still remembers it and talked about it when she went to WDW this year. She is 19.

Neither is open anymore. Mr Toad was replaced with the Winnie the Pooh Ride and Snow White's Scary Adventure closed this year and is being turned into "Princess Fairytale Hall" - a meet and greet location. To the OP, my advice would be that when you get to MK, you head right to Fantasyland and either get in line for Peter Pan's Flight or get Fast Passes for the ride. It's easily one of the most popular rides in the park. If you get that out of the way early, then you save a TON of time. After riding that, you can hop right across and ride It's a Small World and knock out 2 attractions pretty early.

What kind of looks do you get when you just order a bun? What does that cost in real money and pride?

AP previews are scheduled for 3 specific dates: November 3, November 10 and November 11 ( LINK ). Beginning November 19, it's a full "preview" or "soft opening" of the New Fantasyland area (excluding the Seven Dwarves Mine Train - scheduled to open in 2014; and Princess Fairytale Hall - scheduled to open in 2013). This means that Enchanted Tales with Belle, Belle's village, Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid and most, if not all, of Storybook Circus will be open at some point during the day ( LINK ). Typically these "preview" or "soft opening" labels Disney is using kind of gives Disney a bit of flexibility with guests when rides/attractions need to be shut down in those areas during the day. They can just say, "well it's a preview and we're still working to get the kinks out." It sort of like a store or restaurant opening and then having an official "Grand Opening" a few weeks later.

That's awesome to hear. I thought it had a Q1 2013 opening date.

Yeah like I said I've been to several soft openings and they've never limited it to just AP holders to my knowledge. Soft openings are fun too because of the newness of the ride (smells, look, etc.).

Disney has really just started doing more AP previews in WDW and DL prior to full guest previews. With the explosion in Disney fan websites and podcasts, though, it looks like Disney has decided it really needs to set dates and publicize them more to appease fans.
