Use it weekly 3 or 4 times a week. We also have subscribe and save items that are shipped out automatically every month.

Question: does Prime work with all purchases, or only things you buy directly from Amazon (i.e. not used items from sellers)?

things are listed as "prime eligible" and you can filter your search results for products based on prime eligibility.

Amazon Prime is getting less awesome. More products are showing up as "add-on items" requiring $25 for free shipping, even with Prime.

If anyone here is a new mom or dad, join Amazon Mom (free) and get your diapers and wipes off Amazon at crazy prices. If you sign up for Amazon Mom that saves you 15% and if you do Subscribe and Save (free; you say send me this item X times a month/year/etc. and can change it whenever you want, free) you save another 15% off baby items.

Only things sold by Amazon. For example, I searched for a flat iron. LINK You can see they vary in price. There are some as low as $43. The ones that are Prime elegible are $50-$53. Basically, if you need it in 2 days, it's a great deal. Or you can pay $3.99 to get it next day.. also a great deal. But if you don't mind waiting 3-5 days, you can buy one from another seller and pay the few dollars it will be for shipping. Prime is really best for things you just flat out don't wanna wait on.

Can I list things as "Prime eligible' without having it? The reason I ask is because the main thing I buy on Amazon is movies (DVDs). I buy other things here and there, but that's the bulk of what I purchase. So if Prime doesn't count on things like DVDs, then it's not worth it for me. So is there any way I can kinda search or check and see what is available for Prime?

There's a $5.04 difference between the cheapest result from your search and the cheapest Prime item, and they charge $4.99 for shipping that will take longer than 2 days...

Exactly. You have to decide what $80 is worth to you. If $80 is worth paying the same for items and getting them faster, do it. FWIW, I love Prime. But for some people, $80 might not be worth paying the same thing and just getting it faster. I haven't re-subscribed to Prime since my free year expired. I have several friends with Prime accounts that order things for me if I need them quickly. If not, I don't mind 3-5 days.

Movies are readily available as prime items, unless you're looking for something very obscure or out of print.

When movies are "prime" eligible it usually means you get to watch them for free via Amazon streaming. So I don't really know how that works for purchasing dvd's and having them delivered. If I buy a movie from amazon, I do it digitally so I can stream it whenever I want.

Just searched Prime and Field of Dreams (Two Disc Anniversary Edition) popped up. It's available on Prime for $11.83. So that's what I would pay for it, and it would be here in two days, right? However, I can also buy it used in "very good" condition for $3.52 (plus $2.98 shipping). So that would be $6.50 and I'd get it in about a week (usually), maybe two. Doesn't seem like Prime is good for what I use Amazon for..

Right, but see the search I just posted about..

Right, most of the ones I searched originally came up as Prime streaming movies, of which I have little/no interest. When I actually wanted a DVD, the cost for the Prime one wasn't worth it and was almost double what I'd normally pay (with shipping included).

My dad has me order stuff for him off Amazon all the time. As a thank you I signed us up for prime on his dime and gave out the free memberships to the rest of the siblings. Really worth it for 5 prime accounts even if everyone were to chip in.

I don't think you mentioned that you buy your movies used. Prime items are new only. You will be able to save money buying used over new via Prime. The only things I buy on Amazon that usually isn't Prime are used books. Can usually get a paperback in decent shape for under 50 cents.

Yeah, prime isn't good if you're into used movies or books. They pretty much only sell new items, which are going to be more expensive.
