| What Are The Campaign Strategies From Now 'Til 11/6/12? (Posted on 10/4/12 at 3:31 pm)
Serious question...looking for serious answers. If you are the campaign managers, what course do you take. It appears that Romney has seized the momentum in view of the debate last night. What do they do now? In my opinion the path for victory for each is as follows: Romney: (1) Pour money into swing states; (2) Concentrate on maintaining momentum in coming debates; (3) Fight fire with fire...Americans want more of the Romney that they saw last night...organized and fiery. Obama: (1) Pour money into swing states; (2) Spend much more time in debate prep than fund raising...allow grass roots campaign to shoulder more the the fund raising load; (3) Attack Romney's character...take focus off of the debate, and frankly, the economy; (4) Don't overreach...walk the balance between #3 above and coming across as nothing more than a Chicago community organizer; (5) He needs to present himself as presidential...I don't know that going on Letterman benefits him...he needs to seize on opportunities to be the President (he blew that with Benghazi in his response, though I am sure other opportunities will spring forth); and (6)Use the media to be your attack dog...don't get into the muck...let the networks get their hands dirty.

You forgot Obama: 7) Print more money to hasten the collapse so we can blame it on Romney in '16 and elect someone even worse than me.

If Obama loses in 2012...I fully expect him to run again, and win, in 2016. That is beside the point of the thread though.

Absolute panic mode from the DNC across the board as the ball of yarn in unrolling. The Congressional fields got whammied last night.

I agree with you on Romney's strategy but would add that the Romney camp had better be totally prepared when the Dems go to obama number 3 and 6. It is going to get brutal. I also think the Dems will have a #7: some sort of October Surprise... Greece/Syria? N-S Korea? I don't mean that something will happen in these places, but that there will be something they will use to get attention off BHO's dismal record.

95% of the "likely" voters already know who their guy is. so.. Here is what the Dems will do: 1. identify undecided voters in "your" precinct. know what makes them tick, on an individual basis. Address their issues: sell, sell, sell. 2. get your partisans to the polling place. --- I would "hire" AL Franken to write some zingers for Obama. There were times during the 'debate' last night when I felt that Romney was reciting a memorized bit of patter. I felt like the debate was Saban vs Miles, in which Saban recites his memorized patter (like Dooley does), while Miles searches for the right word, making it up as he goes along.

I agree with you relative to debate prep. I think we saw an example of each person's work ethic towards a single event last night. Romney is used to selling himself for large business deals...I am sure his debate prep mirrored a couple of decades of merger/acquisition prep..thorough, somewhat succinct, professional and to the point. Obama comes from a background in which, quite frankly, he is probably the smartest guy in the room in most cases relative to his days as a community activist/organizer. When you are the smartest guy in the room, you don't have to prepare as much and can get away with less detail, organization, etc. I don't say that as a shot at Obama, although I am sure people will take it as such.

I agree with #2 and that will likely happen as the grass roots effort is strong. They better hope for good weather on 11/6. As to #1, if they have not done this and have not been hammering it...IMO, it is too little too late.

I have thought about this too. If Romney were to win (I don't think he will) and actually take the measures necessary to deal with the "fiscal cliff" then there are going to be a lot of pissed off constituents in the short term as they see what it's going to take to dig out of this cluster we are in. In other words there is a good chance that if the party in power for the next 4 years actually does what is necessary for the long term success of the country, they probably won't get elected in 2016. But it would be worth it.

There are a lot of Mormons that have a lot of money in this country now. I don't know if they should go the Mormon route. It could be comparable to going after a politician because they are Jewish...the backlash could be large. I think they go after him harder for being out of touch, for being rich, for being "heartless and mean", etc. They will play class warfare and hammer him for flip-flopping.

That will certainly be an angle. I think they will likely, and probably smartly, double down on racism and classism. Obama needs this, but he needs to steer clear and let the media carry his water. If he wants to maintain and win, I think this is a necessary component of the strategy. He obviously cannot run on his record alone...if at all.
