my son has a rossi .22LR/410 combo and i need your help. (Posted on 10/4/12 at 1:17 pm)
i am thinking of putting a scope on the .410 and letting him hunt with that this yr.
can anyone tell me the pros and cons of hunting with .410 slugs in this gun.
to be honest i have a perfect little spot on our club for using a slug and it is teaming with does and spikes, i don't think range will be an issue. the max shot in this spot would only be 40 or 50 yards.
edit: does the .410 have the enough power at 50yards to put down a deer?

Try this LINK You want at least 900 ft-lb of energy. So yes, even the factory load standard slugs at the bottom of the page are plenty at 50yds, heck even out to 100yds you would be fine. Accuracy is a bigger concern on a smooth bore .410 out past 50yds anyway.

I have one just to screw around with. I have buckshot. Would it be enough to put down a deer? I don't hunt deer and don't know but I'd think it would work.
