IDGAF. There are many other live oaks in town, and still lots to do to alleviate traffic, so let's go in that direction.

Does BR even HAVE a Friday's? I'm searching, see one in New Orleans, one in Metairie, one in Lafayette...Don't think there is one in BR. But yeah. Ok.

Didn't some guy do a study that says Baton Rouge is the most green city (tree-wise) in the US? We can spare a few if it improves our shitty traffic.

Simple solution, for every 100 year old live oak they cut down, plant 2, in 95 years there will be plenty of 100 year old oaks.

Nope, Lake Chuck has a loop. BR is only a reflection of the people in BR, as is any city. It's not something put upon it. Dominated by chains, builds cookie cutter houses that all look the same in the middle of pastures with of course no trees, and quality of life on the weekends is LSU and Walmart, or maybe Bass Pro and Cabellas or Tanger/Mall of Louisiana. Baton Rouge has settled for it's own doom and damn you if you don't like what it's become. Give them another chain restaurant and they're good for another six months. It has no sense of itself because the people think themselves small, so it is.

Yeah those trees are nice but there are at least 20 right next to them that are just as nice and look exactly the same. Cut um.

If only Baton Rouge was so anxious to level the old dilapidated buildings with roofs caving in upon themselves, or maybe cut the grass, get rid of graffiti, cut the weeds now trees taking ownership back of the interstate fences, replacing interstate guard rails, pressure washing, and enforcing codes everywhere or anywhere. Nah.. Cut down 100 year old live oaks. That's more our speed.

I can care less about the trees I am more pissed that they are starting another road project in the same area that has Millerville Rd, Oneal Lane, and the Oneal/ S Harrells Ferry Rd intersection currently under construction not to mention the Woodlake Rd bridge is closed. Can the City Parish not start a new project until those are at least finished.

According to Kip Holden and Mike Walker, there is only ONE codes officer in charge of covering the entire metropolitan area of Baton Rouge. You can build as many roads as you like to reposition the Baton Rouge population to avoid the urban blight, but if you don't correct the problems which caused people to want to evacuate the Big Nasty in the first place, you won't be able to build roads fast enough to get out of here, and once the population has all but gone, that is those who bring money to the city in revenue to support it, I really don't know where the magic money is going to come from to keep this place afloat in the not too distant future.

From May 2011
quote:
Mr. Al (the oak tree) is between 120 and 150 years old. Mr. Al was in the middle of the construction of a new service road just off highway 90. It literally was a dead end, forcing drivers to travel about a mile just to get around it. Foret says relocating Mr. Al is better than the alternative. The original plan was to cut it down.
From: KATC-TV3: Mr. Al moved to its new home NBC News: Mr. Al, giant oak tree, is on the move to a new home Edit to include: Mr. Al at his new home Edit No. 2:
quote:
The decision to save the tree, estimated to cost the state $300,000, was made years ago when the project was developed, Oliver said.
Daily Iberian: Tree move in 3 weeks
