i think romney said last night that his tax cut is intended to raise revenue

why would he have to pay for anything if it puts more money in the federal coffers?

Are you of the idea that if he is elected, he simply gets to "eliminate" deductions?

Once again, everything will have to follow a process in which the House and Senate get to play a role.

Stop ACTING so pitiful. You KNOW that these guys lay out their visions and their priorities. They do NOT get to simply write a script and the actors say / do what is written.

just sounds like he will cap the total amount you can claim at $17k

for people like me who claim mortgage interest, student loan interest, daycare expenses, depreciation on my vehicle for work, millage for my vehicle, and charitable donations, i may not get to claim all that anymore.

Well, Romney did state on numerous occasions that he was all for closing loopholes and deductions, but he never specified what they were.

If people on here would intelligently debate instead of blindly thrashing Obama, this could be a productive discussion.

What deductions should fall by the wayside given Romney's statement?

I doubt it.

It may be his preference. It may be his proposal. But, he knows that there is the process that has to be utilized.

There was nothing specific

Generally more tax returns, higher receipts. In theory the extra money coming in pays for itself and more. That's one of things we saw with the Bush tax cuts. Although, spending was happening at a staggering rate.

But your not going to hear Romney say anything about Bush.

I, for one, am hoping we are talking about corporate loopholes and other nonsense and not too much on the personal returns

Mainly, mortgage interest deduction. I seriously worry about getting rid of this one.

Now if Romney actually is running on increasing short term budget deficits in order to stimulate the economy then I could conceivably be convinced to take another look.

I thought that's what we were talking about.

Just like the economy is cyclic so the taxes should be as well.

The idea is to LOWER the rate and then eliminate the deduction.

If it is neutral to you, why worry about it?

What the frick. Do you know basic economics? Tax cuts are the hallmark of supply-side economics.

Keynesian economics are based on government spending to stimulate growth.

You have no clue what you are talking about.

This is cracking me up how all of a sudden liberals are wanting facts and statistics! Obama fed them nothing but bull shite when he ran and they were running around crying in the streets when he was elected. He has SHOWN that he is completely incapable of reducing any government spending and now the libs are wanting to know how Romney is going to do it!?!

Yeah, somebody clearly doesn't understand what "Keynesian" means.

If the tax cuts do not correspond with spending cuts then they are paid for by borrowing. In other words, it would be government spending.

Yeah: Ask Barney Frank about protecting Fannie/Freddie and how they passed laws that forced lenders to loan to borrowers who had no business buying, or face litigation from the US government.
