Can't speak about others, but I started paying into SS and medicare at the age of 14. Now if the gov would give me what I payed in back, I could afford to pay for my own health insurance and live good too! At this point, I draw max from SSD. If I was able tomorrow to go back to work, I would. My health problem came at me overnight which flipped my world upside down. So much for planning as I did.

As did I sir, albeit on a part-time/summer job level initially. You and others in your physical condition are the citizens that should be entitled to government benefits based on your work/tax-paying history. Unfortunately we (as a country) are at a point where that can't happen because of the hemorrhage of funds to "citizens" like the Obamaphone lady.

Do you know the percentage breakdown on healthcare spending on a federal level when comparing Medicare to Medicaid?
I'm sure that data can be found, but its important to remember that Medicaid is administered by the respective States. Medicaid is funded by both State and Federal coffers. Some State's I'm sure spend more or less than others based on socioeconomic and other variations. In the early 2000's spending was largely the same for the two programs. With the growth in entitlements Medicaid has surpassed Medicare in recent years. This too is troubling.

Good answer. And yes, I knew the answer somewhat. There are a bunch of young people on this board and I feel for there future.

Being a professional in the healthcare industry are you versed on whether Romney has a plan for this issue? If so, is the plan worth a damn? I personally don't believe the "status quo" is the solution.

No. Were I worked at, I was hired on before a union was started. We formed the union which helped us and the company over the years. Been at the same place for over 30 years.

To be truthful, we are all still sorting that out. Not to flame, but the Romney Plan is largely a conceptual framework with a lot of unanswered questions. This is not to say the plan is without merit, it is simply difficult to compare it with our existing model or an Obamacare like model. We have a wealth of data available from Europe that gives us some indications how a single payer "Obamacare" system would work. We also have our own history with Medicare to work with. This voucher model is interesting but without much data with which to analyze the proposal.

This is why I'm still on the fence with my vote. Mitt needs to give answers as of last week.

what does being hired on before the union was started have to do with anything if you were part of the union being started. does the union you belong to offer a health plan?

No. The company always had a health plan before a union. It was part of my hired on pay at the time. Many years, I didn't have to pay anything towards health care till that got out of control for all. Lets put it this way. In the last two years, my health insurance payed out more then $400,000 just for me. Yes, that is a lot, but think of what was payed in for 30+ years that I never made any claims. Problem that is happening at my company is that the avg age person there is now 49 years old with well over 22,000 people working world wide.

I've been a republican all my life and am very conservative so you may wish to take what I say with a grain of salt. One issue that I have with Obama is that his campaign so far has been a campaign of division. The rich vs the poor and his entire presidency is us vs them. When Obamacare was put to vote it was 1:00 in the morning so the republican couldn't get there to vote. Everything has been so deceptive. I'm not wealthy but I make a very good living, more than most.Right now I'm paying more in taxes, insurance and deductions than I get to bring home. I work my arse off and typically am in the office for 50+hrs a week. If I don't work I don't get paid. It does piss me off that Obama has made his entire presidency about how the banking industry is vile, inhumane, and terrible individuals. I'm in the banking industry and deal with money mgrs and pension funds. No bond I've ever sold has gone bad and I work my arse off trying to help the people running pensions for ordinary americans but I'm somehow a bad guy. Between my church and other charities I give alot of money away every year. I sure as hell give more than that dumbass Biden. Now Obama wants me to pay even more taxes so that people that sit at home and have no interest in looking for a job can continue to sit in their home and get a free check while I'm busting my ass. Sorry this is a bit rambling but I get pretty worked up.

I have similar feelings, but note that both parties are guilty of this. Romney's 47% remark whereby he implies that half of American's are irresponsible government cheese recipients is a good example. My theory is that most American's are neither far right or far left. The majority I hypothesize are somewhere in the middle. The tragedy of American politics is that the two parties have aligned themselves at the opposite ends of the spectrum. This is why I choose to vote by issue rather than party lines. Until such time as a third party arises or the parties move back into the center there will be this divisiveness you speak of.

The fact that you believe this and repeat it shows me that you are as dumb as the rest of the Obama voters.

It was obvious early on in his post. The comments about both sides and reading some conservative authors were efforts to cover it up, but other comments were typical liberal thinking. The fact that he tried to hide it made me respect him less. Obvious is obvious.

no need in all that. It is what it is and he believes what he does. I do believe that Romney has a track record of actually trying to work across party lines where Obama has none. He is too arrogant for that. His demeanor last night showed his arrogance.

His demeanor also showed that he had no response to the blood bath he was enduring at the time.
