re: "Tax cut" : Let's Define what it means

quote:

Obama... and why is cut in quotations?
quote:

neither, it was passed as Republican legislation with a provision that it expire and rates move back up.

So what does each's opinion on the "wording" have to do with the principles of a tax rate different than the current rate? They are arguing a DEEPER issue. See below.

quote:

Obama... and why is cut in quotations?

See above.

quote:

It would be nice to leave the hyperbole out of the conversation

What? My question hits the HEART of the issue. How can you not see that? Is the government entitled to a higher rate or not?

Obama can't afford to let them expire if he gets re-elected for the same reason they have already been extended once under his watch. He is playing on your emotions for your vote.

the government is entitled to what the current tax code states they are entitled too. And that code currently states that the tax breaks will expire and rates will increase as scheduled. I don't know how I can make it any more simple for you.

Tax cuts/hikes should be defined by the current rate.

Honestly I think Romney's plan includes reinstating the Bush tax cuts to get to 20%. It likely isn't based on the current rates either.

Yep, same deeper issue.

Libs believe government is entitled to spend a certain amount every year. If spending GROWTH is lessened, it's a "cut". If taxes aren't INCREASED it's a "cut".

Yea, there's a pattern, and when there's a pattern there's a reason

The current rates are not permanent

That's like saying I'm entitled to a flat rate mortgage interest rate when I sign a variable interest rate mortgage.

The rate is what it IS, not what it could possibly be based on contractual wordings. If the rate ends up staying low on my mortgage over the next 4 years, I wouldn't think "damn, i REALLY owe the mortgage company more money. They are losing money, let me pay MORE."

The tax rate is variable depending on who is running the country. Always has been, always will be. What someone said back when Murphy Brown had its peak doesn't matter.

You make it seem like the tax rate is based on the same rules as calling shotgun: "well I called it FIRST!"

no. it's like you trying to convince your lender that your adjustable rate mortgage is in fact a flat rate mortgage.

You just admitted the GOVERNMENT IS ENTITLED TO YOUR INCOME BEFORE YOU ARE. congrats.

It took a bit of bait, but a catfish will eventually show it's true nature.

ETA: for the tards - thanks government for lending me my income.

I hope it gets extended... but your extending a TAX CUT.
Is extending a TAX CUT the same thing as cutting taxes?

Or is it more like keeping them the same?

On the other hand, is allowing a TAX CUT to expire going to keep taxes the same or raise them?

removing that cut becomes a tax raise?

that is correct. if you do anything to raise a man's tax liability, that is a tax increase. obvisiouly the reverse is also correct. leaving the liabilty the same is neither.

That makes sense if you live in reality.

We aren't dealing with people living in reality. They have a foundational belief that the only reason we have any income is because the government LETS us have it. It is THEIRS first and foremost.

Therefore, they think screaming "this is the tax rate, we called it first!" in the early 90's takes precedence over every tax rate afterwards BELOW that.

It's quite retarded logic. It's like calling shotgun in 1992 and claiming it for eternity because you "called it first"

"YOU CAN'T TRIPLE STAMP A DOUBLE STAMP!!! YOU CAN'T TRIPLE STAMP A DOUBLE STAMP!!!"

no, it's extending a CUT. it's really that simple.

it's going to establish them at the rate set before the tax cut that was designed with a sunset provision.

no, it's really nothing like that.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the government is entitled to part of your check. It is clear you think taxes should be illegal, but the Constitution gives the federal government the power to enact taxes. I can see not liking the rate or amount of government you are buying, but crying about the government being entitled to your check is absurd.

Since you come off as being pretty young, you may not have heard this yet. Two things in life are certain, death and taxes.

re: "Tax cut" : Let's Define what it means

no, it's extending a CUT. it's really that simple.
Then why do you and others keep calling it a tax cut and claiming that Romney wants to cut taxes? And why do we always hear the qualifier "for the rich"?
quote:

quote:

On the other hand, is allowing a TAX CUT to expire going to keep taxes the same or raise them?
it's going to establish them at the rate set before the tax cut that was designed with a sunset provision.
In other words "raise them"? Yes or no?

O REALLY? Then why did Obama refer to letting the tax "cuts" expire as "raising taxes" in 2010?

“you don’t raise taxes in a recession.”

Video

So if letting the current rate stay the same = tax cut and letting it expire = tax raise...

what action would we have to take to do neither and maintain the status quo?

Please answer?
