Son of a Saint Saint?

story worth a read here

10/01/12 - WEEK 5 NCAA NATIONAL FBS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Penn State linebacker Mike Mauti, one of the most vocal critics last summer of Illinois for its efforts to recruit Penn State players after the child-sex scandal and NCAA sanctions, intercepted Illini quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase twice. One of those ended in an unusual 99-yard return that did not end in a touchdown, as Mauti fell short of the goal line. -
09/17/12 - WEEK 3 BIG TEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Michael Mauti, Penn State, Sr., LB, Mandeville, La./Mandeville...Totaled a team-high 12 tackles to help Penn State hold Navy to seven points in the Nittany Lions’ 34-7 victory on Saturday...Finished with two tackles for loss for 26 yards, including a sack...Part of a Nittany Lion defense that forced four turnovers, including one that resulted in a defensive touchdown...Wins the second weekly award of his career. - Big Ten football
09/11/12 - 9/11/2012 NFL DRAFT SCOUT RISER: 1. Michael Mauti ILB Penn State...Watching him on the football field in 2012, you would have no idea that Mauti tore his ACL -- in both his left and right knee. He missed all of the 2009 season (right knee) and played in a few games last year before another knee injury (left knee) sidelined him and put his career in jeopardy. But Mauti has returned strong as a senior and is the heart and soul of the team, showing leadership that the Penn State program desperately needs right now. Through two games, he has 21 tackles and a forced fumble, but his impact has shown far past the stat sheet, uplifting his teammates on and off the field. On the field, Mauti has excellent recognition skills and is very impressive anticipating the action and reacting. He is relentless in pursuit with outstanding hustle whenever he's on the field, proving to be equally effective against both the run and pass and also showing up on special teams. Mauti doesn't play like a prospect with two reconstructed knees, but he won't be able to escape his injury history during the pre-draft process and NFL teams will need to feel comfortable with his medical past before investing a draft pick in him. As long as he stays healthy, look for Mauti to continue to ascend up draft boards and possibly break into the top-60 picks, keeping alive the great tradition of Penn State sending talented linebackers to the pros. - Dane Brugler,

Once again playing at a high level, Mauti has been highly productive when healthy the last three seasons. However, after tearing the ACL in his right knee and missing the 2009 season and then tearing the ACL in his left knee in the fourth game of the 2011 season, much of Mauti’s NFL future is dependent on his ability to stay healthy. An instinctive linebacker who reads and reacts to the play quickly combined with his playing speed gives Mauti excellent range to chase plays down in pursuit. As he showed making two interceptions against Illinois, Mauti moves extremely well in coverage, reads the receivers and pass quickly and has the ball skills to make plays on the ball. If Mauti checks out physically he should be a second round pick at worst.

Our last two 1st Rd picks are sons of players. They don't call PSt Linebacker U for nothing. Any Madevillians here know him?

I lived about two blocks away from him growing up.

He's a good guy and an incredibly hard worker. I wish him the best and continued success.
