Why do games rely on cinemnaic trailers


I will not buy a game on what it should look like but will not.

Usually PR reasons. Same reason that you rarely hear from developers aside from scheduled interviews.

When a trailer comes out, which is early, chances are the game is in no condition to be seen at the time.

They are the Flavor Flav of game hype.

Trailers do get you excited about the game, but have no weight on me purchasing the game. What it does, is get my attention sometimes.

It's the same drill with movies. The first "teaser" trailer really doesn't show you what the movie will actually be like. Just gets your attention. When they have it, then they'll show you more.
