Grant apparently even had to tweet about the stupid "failbreak" moniker Cyril gave it. Normally failbreaking is bricking your phone during jailbreak

That's fine man doesn't matter. All that matters is that there is no iPhone 5 exploit available and there won't be a jailbreak this year. As I've said, there may be a non A6 device tethered jailbreak in a little while. The failbreak used on the iPhone 5 is not a bootrom exploit that a program can patch the kernal with. An SSH jailbreak is 100% different than what you think a redsn0w jailbreak is, which is why I and Pod have told you it will never be available for a public release, it's not possible. There has to be a bootrom exploit found, which will takes months to find on the A6 because it is a brand new chip, just like with the iPhone 4S and the A5X chip that took 7 months after release. This will take around the same time.

I'm sure you have a great reason for this sort of statement, but I fricking hate working with people who make these sorts of statements. Do you realize how many shitty arse developers are in the industry? This should never be a response. That said, I agree. A failbreak doesn't exactly qualify. Running Cydia doesn't count as a functional jailbreak.

I know but he was pissing me off, especially the "tethered jailbreak is still a jailbreak" line. I mean really?

I'd agree it's not functional. Most of the phone is useless with what they got out of it. It's a start.

Tell that to AT&T so the HTC One X can be rooted eh? But but but it's open source? You mean carriers can still lock it down?

I hope google/motorola start a "frick you carrier" motto. Google has pretty much disowned the Verizon Galaxy Nexus thanks to fricking Verizon.

Enormous thread is enormous. I now have video ads that auto launch from visited sites (legit sites), even while my phone is in reader mode. WTF is this shit? ETA: by auto lunching I mean taking over my entire screen like a YouTube video

Apple Turning to Select Retail Store Employees to Help Improve Maps for iOS 6
quote:
MacRumors has learned that Apple is piloting a program to tap into its vast number of retail store employees to help improve the company's new Maps app for iOS 6. Details on the initiative remain unclear, but multiple sources have indicated that participating stores will dedicate 40 hours of staff time per week, distributed among a number of employees, to manually examine Apple's mapping data in their areas and submit corrections and improvements. ifoAppleStore posted a Tweet a short time ago indicating that it too has received information on the effort.
Wow.
quote:
Apple's network of nearly 400 retail stores represents nearly 40,000 employees scattered across more than a dozen countries, making it an ideal resource for assisting with mapping improvements.
This is what I was talking about by "brute forcing" corrections. What a genius move to tap the retail store resources.

What would be more efficient is to let users submit corrections and have these local Apple folks QA them.

They do this already. There is a "Report a Problem" button in maps.

Well now I feel like a dumb ass...I never noticed it Although, in my defense, they probably could have made it bigger or more prominent. Just looking at the comments under the article and someone pointed out that Apple needs to put people in the streets like Google did or this will take forever. Might be some truth to that.

It would be cool to see these cars on the streets trying to run each other off the road and shite. Kind of like a Need For Speed type mapping arms race between Apple and Google.....the only problem is that in this particular Arms race Google is like America and Apple is like Iran.

Posting now from my brand new 5. First time iPhone user here and this thing is amazing. I know the S3 has the better specs but all I want in a phone is something that can call, text, web, GPS, and music. iPhone does all of that for me and it does it phenomenally.

You're just pissed because Siri kept telling you that Auburn is going to finish 4th in the SEC west this year.

My buddy used his droid voice text to ask his neighbor, "Can Rachel [neighbor's 17 y.o. daughter] come over and watch [his daughter] Lauren?" The text came out: "Can Rachel come over and watch porn."
