Because it fails on a drama level and the action is cheesy as hell. It's a mindless melodrama with some occasionally cool visuals. It's technically grand but the story is bankrupt. The dialogue was painful and low-brow for such an expensive, sweeping film. I was not entertained.
This is exactly right.

Yep. Blue Velvet as poster hyperbolizes films way too much. Actually, I can't think of one film in the past 15 years that has come out that you enjoy. I'm honestly curious Blue Velvet, since almost every new release that I can remember comes out with a terrible review from you.

Bull shite. Cosmopolis, The Master, Drive, Elephant in the Living Room, Beginners, Moonrise Kingdom (couldn't stop praising this fricking awesome comedy), Win Win, There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane, Cedar Rapids, Hobo With a Shotgun, Grateful Dead Meet Up 2012 (lol), Midnight in Paris, Transcendent Man, 50/50, The Debt, Insidious, The Tree of Life, Melancholia, The Descendants, How to Die in Oregon, Cinema Verite, The Cabin in the Woods, The Music Never Stopped, The Hunter, Rango, The Artist, and Hanna are all films of just 2011-2012 that I've enjoyed and stated so.

It just seems to me you don't enjoy fun movies.

First it was films of the last 15 years; now it's "fun" films? Gladiator and Braveheart are "fun" films? quote:

No fun at all in the last year of American films for me.

While I haven't seen Win Win, Hobo with a Shotgun, or The Artist, I'd hardly classify most of those as really fun films. Fun films are more like "The Avengers" and "The Goonies". Cedar Rapids and Rango were pretty fun though.

I'd definitely consider Hobo with a Shotgun as a "fun film" because of its intentional campy style.

Saw Looper tonight. Thought it was good, but not great. Didn't live up to my expectations. Also caught End of Watch which I had no expectations for and thought it was fantastic.

no, trolls aren't banned. I just haven't heard anyone who thought those two movies were terrible. I get not liking Star Wars because you aren't a fan of the genre, but say being a fan of Sci-Fi and not liking Star Wars is perplexing.
Star Wars isn't science fiction.

One could argue that because it was a long time ago, it is history, sure. But I contend that it isn't science fiction because it misses the main element of science fiction: SCIENCE. The main plot device is magic, despite what Lucas tried to say in Episode I.

That's true, though I think the realms of magic and science bleed into each other in Star Wars. The force is magical in theory, but the ability to use force is based on the individual's physiology, so that's pretty scientific. The rest of the stuff is pretty scientific, too, such as hover bikes and AT-ATs. Perhaps is best characterized as Science-fantasy?

Spoiler discussion and stuff.....
quote:
First, why would you send the guy back alive to be killed by the Looper. They had no problem killing people in the future(they killed Joe's wife) so why didn't they just kill them and then throw them in the time machine. Then the Loopers are just disposal men. No problem with any of the guys they sent back running away.
They explained this in the movie, apparently the bodies were easily tracked with the future technology, perhaps everyone has tracking chips at that point? Clearly the wife was an accident, but given that all the guys that killed her died there wouldn't be any backlash anyway.
quote:
Second, why the heck would they send a guy to his own Looper. Send him to another Looper. They shouldn't have any problem killing them.
Truth here, but then that would get rid of the story.
quote:
Third, why send them back 30 years to be killed. Just send them back a million years and let them die way back in time. It's not like they can procreate a million years ago. Or see my first problem just send them back dead a million years. That would take care of the body.
Really dude, Butterfly effect or whatever horrible time travel situation you want to think of here. Sending someone that far back could screw the entire future in so many ways. Sending someone back 30 years makes it nice and neat since you can ensure they are killed, particularly since they had Abe to ensure things went smoothly. Anyway, movie was pretty much outstanding. I'm going to have to watch Brick now.
