I cant get the blur out of the text, maybe should have added more frames. Using Gimp portable, any suggestions. Thx

you have to merge the layers down. i think thats the problem

Not sure about GIMP, but you don't do that in PS unless you are saving it as anything other than an animation.

If you merge the layers it's a photo.

Correct - it also depends on the dithering amount. A lot of people, to optimize for web, tend to shrink the resolution to keep the size to a minimum.

Unoptimize the gif, edit, merge your layers, then reoptimize.

HTOWNHORN yeah you were right. I thought it might make a difference after un-optimization. I gotta do a little more reading. I havent been able to seperate, edit and add to single layers. For example the cat in the cereal box, i cant add "IN" to the needed frames.

That's how's I added text to a gif in gimp when I used it  merging down the text layer to the image layer
I use cs5 now though so its been a while may I don't remember correctly
