If they don't have it I will probably order it online and hope it doesn't take a long time. I just need to be patient

What a horribly stupid article. Ever heard of cryptome.org? That's where the terrorists look.

Just figured I'd give a technical explanation for the battery issues that people are seeing and taking issue with.

I'm not reading all that stuff because I won't understand most of it. Is the battery on the iPhone 5 really bad, just ok, or great?

The battery is actually designed extremely well, but the inclusion of the A6 and LTE are major drains. If you're someone who is always playing with their phone and transmitting data back and forth, that could be an issue. If you just use your phone like a normal person, it shouldn't be an issue. I expect some of the issues to be patched out as well. It should be fine.

Would've been awesome for you to say this on the previous page. But thanks, nonetheless.

Eta: I currently have an HTC Thunderbolt with a 1400mah battery. I think the battery life basically sucks on LTE. Do you think the iPhone 5 will be about the same or has technology changed enough to allow a similar size battery to last a little longer?

The iPhone 5's 1440 mAh battery isn't rated too much higher, but the design of the transistors allow for a lower rate of leakage. It's not going to be much better, but charge times should be quicker. LTE really is a terrible standard to move towards as "4G" because of its tail state design. It basically sits around burning your battery just waiting for something to possibly happen. So, yeah, all LTE phones are going to seemingly drain power faster, but it should be offset by a little better of a design and quicker charge times.

Thanks. One more...what if you leave the phone on 3G except when actually using the phone for web browsing? Pretty good battery then? Assume I'd turn on LTE for less than an hour a day.

I'm sure it has been posted, but don't feel like going through the thread. I pre ordered mine the day before they came out, and it still says processing. Are they on back order?

If you use 3G, it should have a pretty good battery life because of the standard's tail state, or the period after receiving data where the radio remains active. It has this because turning something off and on consumes more power than it would to leave it on a bit longer. For 3G, it drops down to half power while it waits to see if anything else is coming in. LTE remains at full power for the entire buffer period while it waits. Since LTE power consumption can be pretty intense, that means if it goes into a high-powered state, even when you're done with the transmission, it's still at that state waiting until given the signal to drop to idle.

Basically, if you're in 3G, you're limited but so is power consumption. In LTE, you have some power available, but it's going to drain your battery. It's up to you as to which is important. The only people really seeing major issues are people who are on their phone constantly Tweeting or playing Angry Birds or whatever.

Are you saying Apple included an advance in battery technology in the 5?

9/14/12 (the day they came out) is the first day you could place an order. I ordered mine through AT&T that day and received it on Friday the 28th. AT&T sends an email when the phone is ready to ship.

Getting mine today . Debating on whether I should sell it or not. My 4 is still going strong and could make it another year I think.

So the Apple guy convinced you that you should wait on the old iphone instead of waiting on the new one?

Not only that.....he also convinced you that the "most innovative" company in the world's latest innovation isn't worth 100 bucks more than a year old phone?

DAMN.....Apple salesman confirms IP5 sucks I guess

Yea yea yea....thats a bit thick....but you see where I'm going there.

If you have issues with your iphone 5, go to an apple store. Got mine replaced in under 5 mins because of a faulty display.

They have brand new ones that are not for sale just for replacement.

The majority of the internet disagrees with you.
