Ive seen less given a red card... fine... but like I said back a few pages, be consistent... if Shelvey's gets a red right there, then so should Evans... If not, caution them both...

I agree consistency above all else. I do not remember evan's tackle vividly, do you have a link? If I could see it again, I could say whether I agree or not on a red for evans.....

meh, agree to disagree, I think its a red and you don't

I'm more arguing against the entire red card system. However, if the system has to stay the way it is I think you should to do something a lot more egregious than what Shelvey did in that particular case to suffer that level of punishmenet.

Much like I think it's ridiculous you can basically be gifted a goal (PK) for a foul on the edge of the box when the guy is in no position to threaten the goal. Or worse when they get a last touch near the GK on the endline and have 0 chance to ever get close to getting the ball before it goes out of bounds but get a PK because the goalie touches them as they fly around out of control. Punishment is far too severe for the crime.

It's the same play Shelvey got his card for, Evans went in two-footed studs up and doesnt even get the ball...

It's easy to saay that but referees are all human and all different personalities with different interpretations of the rules. Not to mention how fast the action happens and how it's easy to miss things. I'm sure they try to be consistent but it's virtually impossible and when they aren't or when they do miss a call it totally changes the game.

I don't disagree with your points here....

I thought there was a foul in the box that evans made the pool fans were unhappy about. If you look at that sequence, it looks bad for shelvey as he had just fouled giggs. He looks out of control to me and I disgaree with your assessment of evans on that play.

Guess I do, looks like Evans has the ball on the inside of his right foot while being cleated on his left foot by shelvey's studs. Doesn't look like shelvey is even going for the ball from this angle either.

For the record, I really don't like evans either. I will give you that I do see evans studs showing. This is my first look from this angle.

That's a terrible angle of it fwiw, there is a better picture that clearly shows both going for a 50/50 ball and Evans going in w/ two feet and studs up. Both should have been sent of imo.

Here's the video of it, watch Evans go in with both feet, couple of good replays in there, still think both either go or don't, can't just send one off. LINK

This is all that matters. Cards in these situations are solely about intent and not about the result of the tackle. Shelvey's tackle in no way hurt Evans (even though he rolled around like he'd gotten shot in the face). They both made bad tackles, because both had studs up. If anything Shlevey sweeps his leg in while Evans lunges straight at Jonjo. That's more egregious in my opinion.

Thats the only pic I could find on a quick search... f you watch the video, Shelvey actually gets the ball and not Evans (I agree about intent)... Like I said, if you are going to send Shelvey off, Evans has to go too... But, for the sake of the game, I think a firm warning for both would have been better...

That said, it was only a matter of time before Shelvey was sent off in a game... He is very Scholes-esque in his tackling... gonna hurt someone one day...

Oh well, looks to me like evans gets the ball a split second before shelvey but no matter its over and done with.

More to the OP, I wonder if seeing this changes the ref's call or not, with the benefit of instant replay? After watching this more and more evans tackle does look worse that when I saw it live, but thats about all I can say....
