| Who is the most IMPORTANT musician of our generation? (Posted on 9/28/12 at 6:52 pm)
Not band but one single person. And by important I don't mean your favorite, I mean the guy that future generations will look back on and idolize. and when I say "our generation" I mean musicians who range from the early to mid 20s to thier early to mid 30s. and post examples of their work if you can. Maybe we can make this a nomination thread for a future tourney if I get enough participation. My vote is Jack White Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground Level

"Y'alls generation" does not have as much to choose from as other/older generation like mine. Basically, y'alls is crap. I would say Eminem.

Kanye could be a legit answer. As much as it sucks, Lil Wayne is probably the answer.

Well the older generation debate is basically settled. The Beatles are number one. The Stones Allman Brothers Zeppelin etc etc are all fighting for second. We've seen and heard it a million times. No need to do it again.

My second answer was gonna be Kanye. I can't think of many rockers who "changed" the music world. Jack White is a solid answer though. Basing it off just 20-3-something year olds makes it a really narrow scope though

I thought about him, but I don't want to say he, specifically, was as significant as RHCP was as a whole. They're going to live on forever, no doubt

I think if you're going to name a musician from Red Hot Chili Peppers it has to be John Frusciante. I can't think of many future singers being stunned by Kiedis' ability plus as we've seen everytime John has left, John Frusciante was the true heart and soul behind RHCP.

That was my intention. I want it to be tough and maybe ruffle a few feathers and have a good discussion on this generations music

There are two that come to mind, both popular, and both extremely talented. They are carrying on the music of the older generations with their own flare, and got people such as myself to listen to what they listened to. I'm a big fan of both, and I think there music will live on for a long time. The two I am referring to are Jack White and John Mayer ( and I don't care who gives me shite for it. If you don't think he's talented you're either a moron, hater, or have never heard anything outside of his radio songs )

John Mayer
I love Mayer (at least when he is on his game, he shits the bed for at least 2 songs every album but hey it gets him paid) and I thought about him but then I thought about this scenario. Say 15 years from now there are two 12 year olds learning how to play guitar. Both have amazing potential. Both are completely and totally in love with music to the extent that they will not rest until they "make it". The difference is that one idolizes and is learning by mimicing Jack White while the other is doing the same with John Mayer.... I put more faith in the Jack White fan to make a significant impact than I do his John Mayer counterpart.
