and doing what?

How's this for starters? The ball is kicked off, one team is on offense, the other is on defense. The QB snaps the ball and both teams just stand up, start patting each other on the back, talking to one another, and stand there doing nothing for an entire quarter.

They're still there, in uniform, technically "playing" and making their millions.

Or, they could do what the Packers were threatening to do in their locker room last night: just walk out there, snap the ball, and take a knee on every down. Once the game starts impacting the fans, that will be when the owners begin to feel the effects on their coffers.

It just doesn't make any sense.. This sport makes unreal amount of money.. why put this poor quality out on the field.

Pride

As I mentioned Monday, my colleague Peter King reported that the difference between the NFL and the refs' union is $3.3 million a year. Well, there are 256 regular season games. The NFL could have the real refs if it forked over an extra $12,891 per game.

The NFL screwed themselves by having an incompetent alternative. The real refs have no reason to compromise as the alternative has been so horrible so far.

Goodell and the owners really screwed themselves in these negotiations. The real refs should actually want more after the recent on field performance of their replacements.

How about the NFLRA makes a few concessions and takes the NFL's offer? It takes two sides to make this deal, but only one has been getting all the blame. Both are at fault IMO.

The refs didn't lock themselves out. They also didn't break a promise to the owners.

Quit applying the Balance Fallacy and look at this objectively.

No way owners budge while the media is covering it every minute. Media scrutiny almost guarantees they don't conceed.
Only empty stadiums, sports bars, and living rooms will get these old bastards to budge.

Genuine question: what promise? I really don't know.

That comes out to $103,125 per team per year.

Again, anyone on the owners' side on this is an idiot.
