Now that ND is making a move (albeit a slow move) into a conference in football, people are going to start bitching at them for canceling games from their traditional schedule? It's not like they can play in a conference and keep most of these rivalries. If they ever join a conference full-time, all of these games are eventually going to have to go.

a) UM is not one of our classic rivalry's (those are USC and Navy)
b) we will still play UM, just not a yearly basis
c) taking a break from the mundane midwestern rotation of Purdue, MSU, and UM is long overdue.

I agree that playing Purdue and State every year is pointless, but this is Michigan fergodsakes. I guess I would want to drop the toughest of those three to though.

We have only played UM 39x so the series would not be considered as a "historic" rivalry. And like I said, the two teams will still play but just not on a yearly basis.
