Gonna leave it and pay 1/2, or go back and forth on weekends? Can you tune up an Optimax?

Leave it. Worth the extra to not move that beotch. We do a month or a little over from oct to the first part or nov and again feb or march. those are the best months to camp to me and its the best price. I can try

We went into November once and the wife did not like it. Short days and cooler temps are not for her. In October, we often go out on weekdays after work.

As everyone else stated, buy used, but do check it out. Don't buy to old or anything that was kept out in the weather that wasn't took care of. The wife and I had a camper most of our lives. Now that the kids are out and on there own, we have a truck camper. We just don't go that much anymore due to my health, but I'm planning a trip maybe in Oct/early Nov.

7 years ago my parents bought a new Salem 27' pull behind for about $14k. Just 3 months ago they traded it in and got a 35' with all the bells and whistles. Glad they bought the cheap one first, as it let them decide what they "had to have".

If you have kids, try to find one without carpet. Little bastards will ruin it, and the wife will always be vacuuming. Get an interior that is easy to clean so the wifey doesn't feel like she's cleaning house all weekend.

We went new the second time also. 35.5 ft bumper. We didn't want the small bunks for the kids. We went with the separate room. After sharing the same room with kids on rainy days, I wanted them to have there own space ( I wanted my own space). Now we can put them down with a movie and go in and out or whatever without waking them. Also got the outdoor kitchen. I like to cook outside and love the sink and fridge outside.

Wife just sent me a link to a bumper pull. I do not think I want to leave 5er world.

Don't believe I would either after being use to the extra head room. I went with a bumper because I could get more for my money and I don't pull it far.

We had a pop-up growing up, and finally got a pull behind. We as kids loved to camp on the weekends and holidays. We grew up, and now it's a hunting camp. Win-win in my book.

I'm torn between bumper and fifth. I like the idea of having the truck bed available for the trips with a bumper but obviously like the luxury and better ride and control of the 5th wheel.

Yea, its a tough call. If your traveling long distances to camp (several hours) I would go with a fifth wheel. For me, I dont go far, and it was about dough. We wanted to go new and big, but I didnt want to spend a fortune. Once you get to shopping you will see a major difference in the price.

I do hate not having the full bed, but so far, I don't think it really has affected us much. We take two vehicles anyway. I carry the BBQ pit and blue tank in the bed of the truck. Can also carry a decent amount of fire wood. I love the ease of hitch. I do not like backing it. When you have backed a boat all your life, getting used to a 5er is really tough.

Keep in mind also that a 5th Wheel is going to have much more outside storage than a Bumper Pull on average.

is it all backwards with a 5th when going backwards? That's gonna frick my world up. Is it safe to put anything int he bed of the truck when you have a 5th? I jsut didn't know for turns and stuff its okay to put stuff backthere as well.

Yes, just limited on space because of the room it takes up in the bed and on how high stuff can be behind the hitch to keep from rubbing/hitting camper.

The maneuverability of the 5th is an advantage though even though it may be a little tough getting adjusted.

Why do campers not have gooseneck hitches? Makes much more sense than having that huge fricking hitch in your bed.
