I know they thought that was some great way to end the ep, but at this point, everytime they do something like that it feels more like they're saying frick you.

Yeah but they really couldn't show too much more in the first episode. Pretty much showing us that Barney and Robin are still in love and that's where Ted meets his wife. Pretty good ending after a slow episode imo
