quote:
A warp drive to achieve faster-than-light travel — a concept popularized in television's Star Trek — may not be as unrealistic as once thought, scientists say. A warp drive would manipulate space-time itself to move a starship, taking advantage of a loophole in the laws of physics that prevent anything from moving faster than light.
I've always been thankful for living in the times that I do, but this kind of pisses me off. Why couldn't i have been born 200 years in the future when this is commonplace?

You would be saying the same thing then. However, I agree.

of course everything being equal. I wouldn't want to live 200 years in the future if it's ruled by a communistic NWO.

Im pretty sure most things we put in our futuristic movies and imagine can happen actually are possible in one way or another. We just need to, (and by WE i mean those scientists who stare at the stars), keep an open mind and stray from the textbook definitions of research to find those ways. This is so cool.

Gene Rodenberry was an alien.. Everything in star trek will come true, in some ways we have passed TOS.

Powerman will be in here shortly to tell us we can do this if we just think hard enough, and that we can also build fricking space elevators to other planets. I always say we are going to be lucky to have any energy to keep the lights on in 50 years. Lather, rinse, repeat.

There is still a chance that time travel gets invented in your lifetime though..

Maybe Apple's RDF tech will be the breakthrough we need to build a warp drive.

Read somewhere that a ship exiting warp at its destination would annihilate anything in front of it. All the random particles the ship encounters during warp would be caught up in the warp wake, compressed, and then slam whatever's in front of the ship at very high energy.

And in space there's nothing to stop it from just going and going until it hits something

Maybe they figured how to reverse engineer one of those crashed UFOs.
