I have been trying to tell you guys here about this. It is a direct result of their gov debt and we are a matter of years behind now, not decades most likely. People bitch about Obama's relatively modest plan to just let the bush tax cuts expire on upper incomes, yet we are heading towards a drastic frick the wealthy in the arse and make them bleed like some European countries. Some of us have enough sense to want to attack the problem full force on the revenue and expense side, some, like the Tea Party in particular are too fricking stupid however. And as I have said, I work with wealthy foreign clients and some are considering leaving their native countries when this shite starts happening.

In 5-10 years, with our current politicians, you will be hoping for "only" 40% if you are upper income I project. And that has nothing to do with which party is in charge. It will be forced on us.

Finally. Some sense from you. HOWEVER, increasing taxes is not the only answer. The first thing is to exercise cuts. If you arbitrarily just bump up tax brackets to bring in more funding without cutting spending, it will only increase spending, not reduce it. In the early 1980s, Reagan worked with his D congress to try and cut spending. However, Ds said they would not agree to cut spending until some taxes were increased. So, Reagan agreed to work with them and did the dirty deed. When it came time to cut, the Ds in congress balked and all Reagan had to show for it was a tax increase without any promised cuts.

You really need to pay attention. I have called for cuts to everything including SS, medicare, and medicaid. The problem is too fricking big for anything other than an all out assault from every angle.

I guarantee people would be OK with some tax increases if the government showed it will cut spending FIRST; not AFTER taxes are increased. It would be like giving a crack whore $100 bucks before going to rehab and cleaning themselves up. If you don't think the crack whore will spend it all on more crack vs other day-to-day necessities, you are only fooling yourself.

But not enough of the politicians in Washington have been ok with this, primarily the Tea Party. There have been some reasonable purposals that did both. Neither side really liked them, but one extremist group in particular, the Tea Party, has said no tax increases period no matter what. They are about as ridiculous as anything I have ever seen in congress and that says a lot.

That's because they have been burned before on promised cuts after raising taxes. Starting cutting first and opinions will shift. Not before.
