No doubt. Agree with whomever said he should've gone out after their 2011 championship though. Geno gonna love not having to share the spotlight though.

Top 5 easily? Who out of K, Wooden, Rupp, Smith, or Knight are you leaving off? I'd feel a lot better about his legacy if it there wasn't academic and recruiting violations following him the whole time. Not to mention harboring criminals on his team.
You're comparing coaches who won at Duke, Indiana, Kentucky, UCLA and UNC to someone who won at CONNECTICUT. Calhoun's coaching job at UCONN has never and will never be replicated. He built that entire program's athletic department with his basketball team's success. He's Bill Snyder of College Basketball x100000. I don't have the slightest problem saying he's better than Dean Smith. Smith is the most overrated coach of all-time. I'd also put him slightly above Knight and then he's fighting with K, Wooden, and Rupp for GOAT.

Duke had never won anything before K. A couple final fours, yes, but not a perennial contender

Somewhat agree about Dean Smith, but Wooden is unquestionably the GOAT imo

This is literally what Gene Bartow did in the 80's at UAB. I'd put Bartow up there with Calhoun. But he's not top 5

Yeah no kidding. Because Rupp isn't pretty much THE guy at Kentucky. I mean he only coached there for 40 years, 5th in most wins all-time, and is 2nd in winning percentage (42 years and won 82% of his games during that time). And that's just Rupp. Tip of the iceberg. He's maybe Top 10. I'd be willing to say if you look at total body of work, Pitino may be a better coach then Calhoun.

They still had a program. They were still relevant. No one had ever fvcking heard of UCONN.

O absolutely. I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't have Wooden at the top, but I also didn't wanna sidetrack the thread into some GOAT argument.

Sometimes I love this board. Comparing Gene fvcking Bartow to Jim Calhoun. A guy who won nothing compared to someone who won three National Championships. God bless this board sometimes.

I don't think he's better than Knight or actually in the discussion for GOAT, but I do understand the argument for putting him in the top 5.

Calhoun is a cheat and a coward and only left because of the post season ban. Good riddance
