Very rough footage (shot for French TV) of what was technically not a Velvets show, but was the first time Lou Reed, John Cale and Nico had shared the stage in several years.

In honor of the Saints playing a shitty excuse for a football game, here is a shitty excuse for a non-Phish post:
Phil Ochs on Come, Read To Me a Poem (April 12, 1967)
Phil Ochs was a talented folk singer-songwriter of the period, probably second only to Dylan. Come, Read To Me a Poem was apparently a public TV show dedicated to that particular art form. This being the '60s, there is a lot of rock-lyrics-are-poetry talk. The interview section of the tape is actually fairly interesting for Ochs' discussion of the songwriting process.
If you like this sort of thing you might also like the Ochs version of Poe's "The Bells".

"Berlin" may be my favorite Reed track too.
Do you know if "Berlin" was written by Reed post-VU, or if it was first done by the actual Velvet Underground and then recut by Reed solo, like "Satellite Of Love"?

Brinsley Schwarz on German TV (March 6, 1975)
Very rare clips from an otherwise lost Rockpalast appearance by the kings of Pub Rock. These clips only survived because they were rerun on a morning TV show a few days later. The hostess and panelists are clearly having the time of their lives.
The highlights of this brief set are the Brinsleys' classic riff on Sweetheart-era Byrds, "Country Girl", and an early performance of a recent composition by bassist Nick Lowe, a little ditty called "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, & Understanding".

The Magicians - Four to Go (Eye On New York, WCBS-TV 1966)
Another unique historical document -- a short film (produced by a local NY TV station) about The Magicians, a NYC band that seemed just on the verge of hitting it big, but never quite broke through. While no NYC group could be considered "typical" of the period's garage bands, this film does offer a fascinating inside glimpse of a rock musician's lifestyle and concerns just before hippies and the psychedelic era -- much of the film details the band members being hassled for wearing long hair, and a clear but unmentioned subtext is the band's transition from Stonesish R&B to Dylanesque folk-rock.
It's theoretically possible someone else here may have heard The Magicians, as their classic single "An Invitation to Cry" was included on the legendary Nuggets compilation of '60s garage bands.
