Samsung's Ativ S looks really nice also. I may take a look at Windows Phone 8. I had a 7.5 phone and I liked it but there were a lot of apps that I used that weren't available. I'm sure that's probably changed now.

I've been using Skydrive to back up my pics and vids. SkyDrive reduces the quality of the pics which is fricking stupid

I truly hope it succeeds in the market. 2 OS's with huge market share is no good IMO. Like the two party system.

ETA: Unfortunately, carriers will more than likely not promote it and steer customers towards android where they have more control.

re: Nokia Lumia 920: Windows Phone 8 flagship, with built-in wireless charging

I'm an original Windows Mobile fanboy and I was pissed Microsoft completely scrapped Windows Mobile 6.5 so I was pretty bitter towards Windows Phone 7 when it came out. From playing around with for about a month, it's a pretty nice OS and it "just works"

this is what I wrote in a previous thread about Windows Phone 7

quote:

I'll preface this by saying that I don't give a shite about apps. There are a lot of apps available for Windows Phone 7 though

I've been using a Windows Phone 7 device for the past 3 weeks and have had a good experience with it. It might be the best mobile operation system out there IMO. Everything flows so well and it is smooth as shite. I've tried my darndest to make it lag and it just doesn't. I would recommend it to anyone who is new to a smart phone because it's very user friendly and just "works"

Also the on-screen keyboard is the best I've ever used on any phone

However, the OS is extremely limited and it drives me crazy sometimes. Zune is needed to add items to the device; no way to search for files; web browser has no Forward button; can't turn off haptic feedback on the capacitive buttons (at least on the HTC Arrive); not many options in the camera menu; can't backup texts; SkyDrive reduces the quality of photos and you can't download them back to the device; and other shite that irks me that I can't think of

I'd like to see it do well also, competition is great for the consumers. As far as the carriers go though, I think they're less likely to promote it just because it's been hard to sell them. I had to be at the Verizon store yesterday and asked them if they carried windows phones out of curiosity. Was told that they did, but they weren't able to sell more then 2 of them in 3 months, so they had to pull it. A lot of that has to do IMO with the fact a lot of people don't even know windows phones really exist and have these kinda features.

re: Nokia Lumia 920: Windows Phone 8 flagship, with built-in wireless charging

i turned my MDA into an iphone the same day it was initially 'released' in a little glass bottle at that user conference since someone grabbed all the icons and created a custom skin.

too funny as people waited for 8 months for it to start shipping and would laugh about how sucky my phone was..i'd whip it out and show them the 'complete' iphone experience.

for some reason that made the apple fan boys really mad...i heard more than once 'steve jobs is gonna sue to make you delete that'

I'm very tempted to try this out. I have an Atrix and my upgrade is on October. I have had a blackberry, an iphone, and the Atrix so I don't really have any brand loyalty but I'm still hesitant about getting this over the new iphone.

I also have a windows desktop and a Macbook pro so I can go either way with my personal "ecosystem"

So instead of te phone being attached to a long cord that you can move around and use while charging you have to lay it on a pad basically rendering it useless whole charging.

I don't know if the wireless charging is a great idea to sell the phone with. It just means it will be a less efficient charge which in turn means longer charge time. I'd rather put in the extra 2-3 seconds to plug it in and get a faster charge.

it's a cool factor thing, relatively useless in implementation.

However it is a look into future technology. From what I understand wireless power akin to wifi in your home is a real possibility.

You can still charge it with a USB cable, I think.

The phone looks beautiful, IMO. Being a Nokia, I'd expect the build quality is great. I'd love to try it out for a week or 2. But the S3 is just too awesome to get rid of at this point.

I'm looking to take another dip in the Windows Phone pool. I'll look at the Lumia 920 and the Samsung Ativ S. I think both look great. It'll be interesting to see how Microsoft has changed up the OS since Windows Phone 7.5.

Highlights of the Lumia 920 for me:
332 ppi screen (higher pixel density than the iPhone 4S); PureMotion HD+ Display Technology (works with gloves on!), Nokia apps, Pureview Camera enhancements.

Things I didn't like:
Glossy polycarbonate finish (feels cheap IMHO), 10.7 mm thickness, 185 gm weight.

I like my Windows Phone, I moved over from an old iPhone 3G that couldn't keep up and lagged constantly. I have the Samsung Focus Flash, it was free and absolutely flies. I don't know about the app situation but I like the browser and never play games anyway.

Lol, looks like Nokia faked their image stabilization demo reel:

Check out the 27 second mark in the video:
PureView - The next innovation in video stabilization

If you look at :27, you can see clearly that the "OIS ON" section wasn't shot by a dude riding a shaky bicycle and his Lumia 920. Instead, it was shot by a cameraman in a van, with what looks like a DLSR:
