Official notice for LSU

Due to the threat posed by Tropical Storm Isaac, LSU, the LSU Laboratory School and LSU Child Care Center will be closed on Tuesday, Aug. 28, and Wednesday, Aug. 29. LSU is asking that students who remain on campus take all necessary precautions and remain indoors as the hurricane makes landfall. All classes, public events and related activities at LSU are suspended and all offices and departments, except those previously designated as required for essential operations, will be closed on Tuesday, Aug. 28, and Wednesday, Aug. 29. Unless you have been designated as essential for operations during emergency situations, all faculty and staff are asked to stay home and take all necessary precautions. Essential employees are required to remain at the university as we continue to monitor developments. Department heads are responsible for determining who is considered essential personnel. Please contact your direct supervisor to determine if you are classified as essential personnel. The LSU Emergency Operations Center will continue to monitor the storm and a decision on whether or not the university will reopen on Thursday, Aug. 30, will be made accordingly. A determination regarding the academic calendar and the make up of missed classes will be addressed in future communications. Updates related to the storm will be posted to the LSU website, www.lsu.edu; recorded on the LSU emergency hotline, 225-578-8654 or 1-800-516-6444 (toll free); and made through the local and campus media. The safety of the LSU community is the university’s first priority, and all decisions about how LSU will deal with the storm will be made with that priority in mind. Residential Life facilities, including all residence halls, campus apartments and family and graduate housing, will remain open. For students who remain on campus, we ask that you also take all necessary precautions. For your safety, please remain within your residence halls and limit your outside trips to necessary activities such as dining.
