Pesky spent 60 years with the organization. He was a regular presence in the Red Sox clubhouse and even dugout during the games. He was an instructor with the team in spring training. He was a mentor to pretty much every player who came up in the organization.
Johnny died last week. He was honored with a wreath over his retired number at Fenway Park and with a moment of silence. Each member of the Red Sox wore number six in his honor against the Angels the other night.
But when the team provided charter buses to attend Johnny's funeral, only four players -Ortiz, Buchholz, Padilla and Saltalamacchia- showed up.
If you ever needed proof that this team is composed of a group of frickers, this is it.

I knew before opening this that Papi was gonna be one of the 4 to attend. Big guy loves all things Red Sox and has respect for his organization.

Red Sox players missing his funeral doesn't really bother me. Its not like they've been playing their games recently anyways.

Yeah, I thought the same thing before I clicked on the original article.
It's just unbelievable. Nomar Garciaparra flew in from California for the funeral, and those guys couldn't drive to the park from their homes.
Maybe best of all, almost the entire team showed up that night to bowl and listen to country music with Josh Beckett.

What does that have to do with human decency?
The world requires more of people besides only acting when we owe somebody something.

That is extremely disappointing, I would think many more Red Six would have shown up from the teams of the mid-00's.

Pesky must have been an a-hole if only 4 people showed up. If he was a decent person at all there would have been way more players there.
