quote:
(ABC News) A California woman claims "smart"parking metersare making her sick. And now, she wants nearly $2 billion because of it. Denise Bartonfiled a claim against the city of Santa Monica, Calif., for $1.7 billion alleging the radiation from "smart" parking meters around the city are causing health complications, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press . "In April, they started turning on the new smart meters downtown and I started getting sick,"Barton told ABC News. On Aug. 6, Barton filed the $1.7 billion claim that gives the city 45 days to respond. "I figured that's the value of my life and health considering how much I had to go through as a child," Barton told ABC News.

Obvious frivolous law suits should be treated with an all in approach. You either win, or spend life in prison.

Nah, prison is a bit unreasonable. However these are the types of cases where the "loser" (i.e. if suit is dismissed at trial or summarily beforehand) should bear the burden of court costs and ALL attorney's fees expended in defending the claim. That would serve to stop many of these b.s. claims on the front end.

She has a constitutional right to be able to present her claim ... never mind, can't even try to say that with a straight face.

Her cell phone is more harmful than a smart meter.

I think legally you should only be able to sue for what your net worth is, because that is the burden that society would feel without you. Unless there is health bills of course then you can sue for those. Nothing more.

this and if there's an attorney involved that filed the suit for her, they should be disbarred and never allowed to practice law again in the US

How did she come up with over a billion in damages? I am ready for Tort Reform. and good luck to her attorney to prove any connection between the smart meter and the client health issues.

I assume she's pro se, and insane. I once was involved with a pro se case where the plaintiff wanted as part of her damages the death penalty for the defense's lawyers, and their cars, but only if 1998 or later models. Crazy people are awesome. EDIT: Yeah, she's brain damaged.

And I seriously doubt she has a lawyer, otherwise the article would quote them, too.
