I don't think the Martells would know, in that scenario. Otherwise, they would be working with Aegon/Darkstar to secure the rightful Targ heir to the Iron Throne. Instead of chasing Dany halfway around the world. (and later Griff/Aegon). ETA: Doran did say, "Darkstar is the most dangerous man in Dorne." Maybe he knows something?

I like it: read the description of Darkstar LINK
quote:
Gerold Dayne has an aquiline nose, high cheekbones and a strong jaw. He keeps his face clean-shaven. He has thick silver hair that falls to his collar like a silver glacier, divided by a streak of midnight black. His eyes appear black but at closer vantage they are a dark purple - dark and angry. Arianne Martell thinks to herself that if there is a handsomer man in Dorne she does not know him. He has a cruel mouth and a crueler tongue. He is a cruel man. Arianne considers that if she were to take him as consort her father would question her good sense, but their children would be as beautiful as dragonlords.

I have a new question that ive never seen mentioned. One quote just threw me off while reading the Theon chapter in ADWD when he and Jeyne escape. Theon says "winter is coming ". Rowan, one of the washerwomen who I thought were all wildlings, says "You have no right to mouth Lord Eddard's words. Not you. Not ever. After what you did....." Who is this Rowan. If she were a wildling, why would she call Eddard a lord and why would she give a shite about his kids or Winterfell?

The Stark's were King's of the North for thousands of years. They figure prominently in the Wildlings' stories. The wildlings may not love the Starks but they share a lot of history.

I just doubt a wildling would call him Lord, although that might have happened plenty of times and I am forgetting.

Wow! Y’all have done some work in this thread. Good job. I have been keeping up in here for the last week and enjoy reading the theories. I am usually not the type of reader to try to figure out the ending before the author is ready to reveal it to me. I also enjoy a good twist if it is justified and I can go back and find clues afterward. But this series (and this thread) has left me with a serious thirst for all that is ASOIAF. So, you all have inspired me to a re-read. Which I will start tonight. Keep up the good work and don’t let this thread die.

They may have out of respect. Especially when you consider it wasn't uncommon for Wildlings in small groups to get past the Wall and settle in Northern/Stark lands from time to time.

Well the description does fit a Targ. Maybe it's not as far fetched as I thought at first.

Then it still doesn't make sense for him to send Quentyn to pursue Dany if he did. I think his dangerous bit was because of his potential to marry into the family and possibly usurp Doran. ETA: FWIW, most all of the Daynes have violet eyes and some have even had light hair (Ashara apparently had dark hair).

Okay now my mind is truly and officially blown. God bless this thread and its awesomeness!

Yeah. I think all that have been mentioned in any kind of description in the text (i.e. Darkstar, Edric Dayne, Ashara Dayne, etc) all have some degree of violet eyes. Now that's not to say they aren't of Targaryen descent somewhere along their line. They're one of the houses that there isn't much on outside of a few people so it's hard to say. They were Targ loyalists in Robert's Rebellion. I'm not saying the theory is wrong or anything. Just that I don't know that I could throw in that it's right based on Darkstar's physical description.

Me and one of my buddies are having an argument about TWOW. He thinks that GRRM is about 40% done and has the story mapped out. I think that he hasn't even started and is just going to conventions getting fat. What do yall think?

He's already read multiple chapters at cons and the whole reason we have the expanded series (instead of the originally planned trilogy) is because there was so much content. That said, I don't think he's in any rush to finish it because he's enjoying himself.

I do not think they are calling him their lord, it was just the title given to the Stark. The have been calling the Starks King of the North or Lord of the North for thousands of years, just not their king or lord.
