#3 former Saint John Carney

This next pic is from the game against Carolina to open the season after Katrina hit; Carney nailed it as time expired

Also #3 "The Cajun Cannon" from my neck of the woods, Bobby Hebert

And while also looking up pics for Bobby, let us never forget his great reaction against the NYJ

"The Cajun Cannon"

Played 7 years for the Saints with 75 starts. Went 49-26 with 1202 completions on 2055 attempts for a 58.5% completion rate and 14,630 yards passing with 85 touchdowns and 75 interceptions. He also has 4 receptions with 1 touchdown for the Saints.

In Saints history, he's 4th overall in passing yards, completions, touchdowns and completion percentage (with guys over 100 passes).

Wish I still had this issue. Read it over and over again.

re: Alltime Saints Jersey # Countdown to First Preseason Game

Bobby, bobby, bobby... he has settled in to the drunk representative for the whodat nation role. If you're like me he will forever have an asterisk next to him that will keep him off the NOLA Mt. Rushmore. I can handle the fallout with Finks and leaving. But to the dirty birds?!? Being a Louisiana boy makes it even harder to accept. I gotta think he chose there over other destinations to make a statement against Finks (think Curtis Lofton here for less than market value contract). It's just when he did the wings out thing vs. the Saints it became a statement against all of Saintsdom.

Second, if he hadn't left and produced the same numbers he would have had an even more prominent place in Saints lore. Statistically...

135 total TD passes (vs 85 in NOLA) would have stood until Brees. Would have been more than Archie & Brooks.

His lifetime completions would have been just 10 behind Archie. Likewise yards passing would be less than 100 behind.

So today instead of being 2nd & 3rd in most Saints alltime passing categories he's 4th. 2 of his 4 yrs in ATL were major injury outages. All the numbers might have been higher if he had stayed in NOLA. At least he was on bad ATL teams, 7-18 as a starter.

I always think of it as Atlanta trying to give us the finger and Bobby taking advantage of it. But I'll agree that it was a tough pill to swallow when he and Finks had the falling out and he went to the failcons. Wish he would have stayed here those four years.

Could you please resize that photo? Or just get rid of it?

I'm fine with either.

re: Alltime Saints Jersey # Countdown to First Preseason Game

Somebody's gotta do it.

Talk about highs and lows. Back up for Brett Favre and Matt Hasselbeck in Green Bay. Comes to back up Jeff Blake in 2000 who goes down in the 11th game of the season. Goes 3-2 and leads the Saints to the NFC West (yes West) championship and to the Saints first ever Playoff win.

Then he got a big fat contract, started throwing interceptions and smiling and got booed by fans and really gave up during Katrina.

Ugggghhhhh....

#'s as a Saint
82 games started
38-44 overall record
1,563 completions
2,771 attempts
56.4% completion rate
19,156 yards passing
120 passing touchdowns
84 interceptions
209 sacks
340 rushing attempts
1,410 yards rushing
13 rushing touchdowns
1 reception (which he threw to himself)

Lets give credit where credit is due. He's third all time in Saints history in completions, yards and attempts and second all time in passing touchdowns. He's 5th all time in completion percentage rate (with over 100 pass attempts) and thrid all time in interceptions.

After Katrina, he signed with Oakland. He started 8 games, went 0-8 as a starter. Threw for 1,105 yards with 3 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

He got a lot of love at the start, which turned into a lot of hate at the end. I'll say it like this: he QB'ed us to our first playoff win, and we imagined he would be our version of Mike Vick. Oh, well, it was fun while he was (semi-)efficient.

yeah. People on this board seem to remember him more for clapping after an interception and the awful backwards pass against the Chargers.

They really don't bring up the 2000 season that much. I remember how sick I felt when Jeff Blake went down that year. We had lost Ricky the week before. But AB came in and played pretty well, we lost that game but he looked okay I thought. Then the next week, he lead us to a win over the defending champ at their house

Don't get me wrong, when he smiled and clapped after a pick, it pissed me off.

Its just that is not how I choose to remember him. Most of the time anyway.

I try, man. The bad just out-weighs the good by so much. I've always wanted to punch his smug face. I had high hopes for the guy, he took those hopes and shite all over them though. Just never cared. I can never respect a man that doesn't give a shit, especially in a team game, and you're letting them down (including fans). He absolutely had potential, just never did anything with it.

re: Alltime Saints Jersey # Countdown to First Preseason Game

gametime!

00 Ken Burrough- no Saints pics, a fitting player to end with... not about the player- Burrough had a decent career for the Oilers! 421 catches, 49 TDs, Pro Bowl twice. Another testament to the ineptitude of the Saints front office for the first coupla decades. Burrough was the #10 draft pick overall. Before his second year the Saints trade him along with Dave Rowe who was decent for (get this...) Hoyle Granger, Terry Stoepel, Charlie Blossom, and a 2nd Rd pick. The pick was another washout, Sam Holden. Some of those early deals were so incredibly bad it's hard to fathom.

Hey, it's 35 days to the real game #1 if ya wanna rerun these from Jim Otis.

re: Alltime Saints Jersey # Countdown to First Preseason Game

Who remembers this thread? 88 days to August 9th, bitches! Going obscure this time around.

Andre "fumble punts"* Hastings. (1997-1999)

I remember thinking he would be a stud for us. In his three years as a Saint he had 123 receptions for 1,741 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also had 23 punt returns for 305 yards. Not bad considering the QBs we had under Ditka. Looking back at the stats for those years makes me sad. Our leading receivers were Randal Hill, Cam Clealand and Eddie Kennison. Jeez!

Don't overlook him though, he is 34th all time in Saints history in receptions. Ahead of guys like Willie Jackson, Cam Cleeland, Kennison, Hill, Jake Reed, Jerome Pathon and Irv Smith.

*Hastings was given the nickname "fumble punts" for his habit of mishandling punt returns by Steelers radio broadcasters Bill Hillgrove and Myron Cope.

re: Alltime Saints Jersey # Countdown to First Preseason Game

87 days!

This is Richard Neal. He was born in Minden, Louisiana. He was drafted by the Saints in the 2nd round (45th overall) of the 1969 NFL Draft out of Southern. He played DE for us from 1969 to 1972, then went to the Jets and signed with us again in 1978. He had a fumble recovery for a TD in 1972 which didn't do us much good because we went 2-11-1 that year. LAME!
He died of heart failure at the age of 35 in St. Louis. He was on a business trip for his company at his death.
