I harldy know most of the bands listed. I need to brush up on my new music some kind of way (HELP!) Rock 92.3 doesn't play anything new hardly. And Pandora is good for new music but I don't know whats BRAND new. Frick Sat. radio.
BUT I do have two albums:

Probably the best comeback of any band in rock n roll history. I honestly mean that. Mission of Burma went on hiatus for 20 years, and came back with the two best albums of their career (ONoffON and The Obliterati), and arguably their best song. Seriously, “2wice” is melt your brain great. And they still rock live.
I can’t think of another band that went away for so long and then came back with actually artistically ambitious music which built their legacy instead of just traded on the rep (not that I begrudge the old guys a few bucks – hey, you gotta send those kids to college – I’m fine with a middle age sellout record).

Depending on how well their album does this year Soundgarden would also be a decent pick, Hiatus since the 96 album, before the reunion in 2010.

Not really. I don’t begrudge them it, but Soundgarden’s just trading in on their name, releasing a solid album that reminds us they used to be frickin’ awesome. They aren’t pushing any boundaries anymore. I don’t really expect bands to put out their best work in their comeback tour, so it’s not a demerit, but its nota must buy or anything.
Put it like this, imagine there’s a guy who has never heard a Soundgarden song. Would you point him to the most recent work as a place to start, to get him into them?
There’s very few bands where you’d answer that question “yes”. If Neil Young had never gone away, he’d be the best example. But Neil never had to come back.

They haven't released a single from the album and you're already saying they don't push boundaries? Maybe after the album comes out then that argument could be made, but I don't really understand the logic here, the only newly made song they've had was Live to Rise, which went Top 5 on the charts...as to where I would point him, I'd point him to all of their albums, each album has it's own sound, and it's own feel.

I’ve heard the single. It sounds like… well, Soundgarden who has gotten old. It’s a good, solid song, but it ain’t Slaves and Bulldozers. I honestly could care less how it charted. But are you seriously going to say, “I think this is one of the best Soundgarden songs I’ve ever heard”? That if the complete noob asked you where to start with Soundgarden, you’d point them to the new song?
Or, if they had a reunion show and only played, say, 3-4 old songs and all the rest new material, you’d be completely satisfied because the new material is that great? That’s what I’m talking about for how good I think Burma (or the Feelies… good call) new stuff is. It completely stands on its own as if the band had no legacy.

Again, you heard one song, which was made in a week for a movie...do you really think a band would make a "Slaves and Bulldozers" type song for a major movie? (Also, how does it make you think they sound old lol) Until you have the new album, you can't really tell me you know for sure that they can't push things. It might not be dark and heavy like Badmotorfinger, but that doesn't automatically mean it's not good. Down on the upside was a solid album, but wasn't by any means close to Badmotorfingers sound, same with Superunknown. All of their albums have a different sound and style, and until I hear the new album I see no reason to just assume it won't be the same way.
(On another note, I prefer Mind Riot personally lol).
